A lot of postings on OGF concern O gauge boxcars and related O freight models - often including reference to the exorbitant cost of current models. In light of that I thought I'd refer to an email notice from Public Delivery Track I got earlier today which says, in substance, that they are liquidating their existing stock of less detailed Lionel "Standard O" boxcars because what they mostly offer are more detailed Atlas and similar items. I was going to post a copy of the notice itself but it won't print to PDF correctly and in any case most of the links in it don't work but here is what the main text says:
Standard O Box Cars
Seeing as the vast majority of what we sell and are known for is highly detailed full o scale sized 3 rail and 2 rail trains, we've decided to close out the Lionel "Standard O" that we have here. Its full O scale sized trains with 3 rail trucks/couplers, but not high on detail. It consists of
1. Lionel "Standard O" from the late 1970's. Cars are mostly plastic, with diecast sprung 3 rail trucks. Not a lot of detail.
2. Lionel Full O scale sized cars from the 1980's and 1990's. These are upgraded versions of the 1970's Standard O cars, and some newly tooled cars. Heavier than the 1970's cars and a little more detail. They were branded just as "lionel" freight cars.
3. Lionel "Standard O" cars from 2020 and forward. These are the 1980's/90's tooling cars, branded as Standard O" now. Full O scale size with 3 rail trucks, not a whole lot of detail.
These are all great runners, if u want less expensive full O scale sized cars to operate on a club or public layout. Also good if u want Full O scale sized 3 rail cars for the kids or grandkids.
In fact the link in the notice that works actually takes you to a listing of MTH Railking cars but the prices are definitely more like what they were in yesteryear as opposed to today.
I can't see that the notice is also on their website but if you look at this page from it listing Lionel "Standard O" you'll see what I mean:
