Heck of a bargain for what Menards is selling them for. I was quite surprised how large they are and detailed for the price. Metal trucks and couplers that seem to be a new version for Menards freight cars. No issues passing through Ross and Gargraves switches. The body style is quite different from stock cars produced by the other manufactures. Need to find some cows to load em up. I wonder if the manufacture developed the tooling or did they acquire the tooling that has been in storage somewhere. Bill

I just received two of them. I was also surprised at the size but I’m really ally happy with them.

I agree with Bill, they roll nice, no wobble, detailed very nicely. Just a great car.

Here’s a vid of my Menards stock cars. I just ordered a spark arrester for the 4-4-0 so it should be less smoky once it’s installed.

The stock cars look really good with the General, Joe.

It really does. I had to take the trolly bridge down because the stock cars are larger but it’s worth it.

Perfect match to the General. Menards is really on a hot streak lately.

Bill I haven't seen any of these cars other than in photos and videos, but my own conclusion based on past purchases is that all Menards' rolling stock and structures are somewhat larger than true scale - or maybe most Lionel and MTH products are a little sub-scale. The cattle cars certainly look big even compared to the full scale boxcars that I have.
I think that this must be entirely new tooling as I have never seen anything in the same design as well as size. Computer-assisted design would allow for creating these from scratch at least in plastic.

They were just a little larger than I had expected for my layout. The sides of the cars were hitting the sides of both overpasses. I just have to reconfigure the overpass but that’s a future project. Other than that I love the look of them with the 4-4-0.

In true life those cattle cars were probably 34 foot cars. But that's okay they still look very cool. Yes Menards up their rolling stock game when they updated their trucks and couplers.

In the 1870s, typical cattle cars were 28ft. By the 1880s this size increased to 34ft. Then in the 1890s this increased to 36ft. UP to increase traffic converted a large numbers of 50ft cars to handle and deliver hogs and some cattle to slaughter houses. In 1929 only one large cattle car was built at a lenght of 81ft.

These appeared to be very nice and original based on the Menards site. Your various photos and videos prove it. With the improved trucks/couplers Menards really seems to have tapped into a good place for value minded types
Lucky us.
