The app is out, download anytime from your App Store Pardon my ignorance but what can you do with the app without a Base3? I’d be interested in trying to learn from it but I can’t see how to do that without the hardware. I’ll watch the Demo with Dave in any case but I won’t go in for a Base3 yet.

I’ll watch the Demo with Dave in any case but I won’t go in for a Base3 yet. Run Bluetooth equipped engines Thanks - I should have guessed this but I've never used Bluetooth control much as opposed to a CAB2.
Another thing I don't know off the top of my head is how to do MUs/Lashups using Bluetooth but I assume it can be done. I mention it because have a Legacy E9 engine that is the lead in an A-B-A setup where all the engines have the same number (the A-A set came programmed that way) and that engine is showing what appear to be the dreaded ground plane symptoms while the other powered A unit does not. The lead engine (which will not answer commands unless the shell is off or loosely placed on the frame or without the usual hand held over it test for a ground plane problem) may have a board/signal issue and I wonder whether using Bluetooth is a way to work around it. If it might be that is enough of an incentive to study and try to use the app at this stage.
P.S. I have looked into the above question a bit and it appears that MUs/Lashups using Bluetooth may be problematic as only the lead engine is addressed and it's not certain that the trailing unit(s) will respond as they would under Legacy CAB2 control. I have yet to try this on a Bluetooth-equipped E8/9 A-A pair that come factory programmed to use one engine address and run tail-to-tail. I'd be surprised if they didn't work right but I think I'll get the app and see.

S N O R E !!!!! much ado about nothing! I'll stick to the original TMCC remote system. It's tried and true. Pretty much the same with MTH DCS system. Almost makes me jealous of the conventional operators. Without ### ##mn electronics, I have to say, I bet they are less stressed about their toys having fried/ bad/ obsolete electronics.

Have they given a potential shipping date yet? I can't find one. I haven't watched this latest video yet, but the Lionel Web Store shows an estimated ship date of 7/8/2024 for the Base3.
My plan is to just sit back... relax... let the early adopters blaze the frontier for a bit. And perhaps next year I give this a more serious look.

I use my cab1 to run all my Lionels legacy locomotives, it works, it works well. I see no need for the base 3. If I'm running all legacy I can use the Lionchief universal remote.

Ditto, by the time all the bugs are worked out it will be at rev 5 and the fact my Cab2 is working just fine and there are no features that this brings that I need. No rush.
But it is good for those who want to get into command, finally there's something. Hopefully the WTIU will not be far behind.
