I was reading about it this morning. Sad to hear of his passing but he is leaving an amazing legacy and history for our country and the sport of baseball.

One of the all time greats for sure, 3 of my favorite baseball players when I was growing up in the 50's and 60's, Mays, Mantle, and Williams.

Must have been an epic time to be a New York baseball fan, when Mantle, Snyder, and Mays roamed center field for the Yankees, Dodgers, and Giants respectively.
The thing about Mays is he played much of his stellar career at the Polo Grounds in New York, on a field where dead center was 483 feet to the wall. That's a huge amount of ground to cover, and he did it spectacularly. By comparison, dead center at the cracker-box that is the current Yankee Stadium is just 408 feet.
Mays was a terrific player and a joy to watch...there are few, if any, his equal in the current crop.

My wife and I have been going through boxes from the old house and I have been sending a classmate of mine in NYC my university memorabilia. This go around, I sent mostly basketball game and tournament programs, a student handbook and anniversary viewbook. He is really into this stuff, and I can no longer read it Included was a June 1973 Mets gameday program (against Atlanta). (I don’t recall anything about the game.) It featured a picture of Willie Mays, Hank Aaron and Mickey Mantle. I just got off the phone with my friend – needless to say, he was absolutely thrilled – he is a sports nut. The parcel reached my friend yesterday; it was in the mail around Willie Mays passing. Alfred

I had no idea of the photo being in the program, until my friend mentioned it. Alfred
