Death By Train Selfie

Sad but something like this was bound to happen.

Seems like "can't fix stupid"...is the order of the day....thank you Ron White! Was watching the Ashland, Va live train cam some time ago. There were nut cases (high school graduates); walking/standing and taking many selfies while standing between tracks, on the tracks, running up and down the tracks! They may not realize or care that a train is moving MUCH faster than it appears. Add to it, I'm surprised nobody slipped off the rail(s) and broke their ankle bones PERMANENTLY!!! having a break like that IS PERMANENT! You will NOT EVER walk very well! During my brakeman/conductor training, it was strongly pointed out what could happen to your ankle bones while "playing" on the tracks.

This is a pretty grim subject but it reminded me of an incident at the iconic Harper's Ferry trackside that was caught on YouTube. Harper's Ferry is close to my heart as on my juvenile Civil War battlefield tours with my parents I visited the site several times and even walked across the railway bridge to the tunnel leading to it. This guy had a near miss without even leaving the trackside - while the video as a whole is interesting and only 2 minutes long you can scroll 1:10 minute in to see his escape:
