Some folks with Lionel Legacy 2-6-0 Moguls have complained of gear issues that over time cause their Moguls to stop running. If you have a Lionel Legacy mogul what has been your experience with it? Problematic or a reliable smooth and consistent runner?

The first release was a dud. They did get repaired, but I believe most still did not run right. The Second release did not have as many issues, some people complained about the sounds dropping out over ross switches.

I had that engine. Worked closely with Dave Olson on a fix. Which was never fixed and I ended up getting a full refund from Lionel. I have since purchased a second one which has been reshimmed by a friend. While it does run smooth on occasion it will stop moving and you get the dreaded three flashes in the cab light. It’s a simple fix, shut power off shake the engine back-and-forth power back on and it’s fine. No two engines will behave in a similar fashion, some can be fixed others can not. Working with Dave O it was found out the gear ratio was changed by the factory after production samples were received by Lionel. The new gear ratio is at the limit of what the Legacy RCMC can handle that’s why it sometimes stales and you get the blinking cab lights.
