My cats are not allowed in the basement. One day years ago I went down there and found one of my engines knocked over.

My cats are not allowed in the train room, but the do sneak in if your not watching carefully. One time our orange cat ( cooper ) I caught in there pushing a train car, standard gauge boxcar. once he realized I was there he jumped down and slither out lol

My layout is 50" off the floor so my two cats can't get on it plus the one cat is 20 years old and doesn't care about the platform and the other one is 9 and would like to get on it the 50" is just too high for him.
Btw the layout was built 50" for me, its easier for me to work on as I have gotten older.

It was difficult to get started with this daily occurrence.

Yep I hear your pain. I had to shoo both my cats from the train room, they loved to chew on wires when they were young.

Cooper is 11 years old I have had cats before who could jump on top of the fridge and the 9 yr old now is just a tad to heavy to that, thank god. The cat who is now 20 when she was about 1-2 years old she got on my old layout in the house basement and decapitated every single figure on the layout. Funny thing is I did not notice it until a bunch of friends were over to run trains and someone mentioned about all the headless figures. She would chew them off and drop the heads right next to the figure, lol. She also liked sleeping in the tunnels until she got chased out by a train! She also likes bread wrappers and steel wool though not anymore! Dave

I had a solid black cat that would craw into my tunnel on a old layout I had when I lived in Columbia, S.C. she would stay in there and watched the trains. she actually liked watching the trains. She was the only cat I allowed in the train room. She was Daddy's little girl you might say.

Cats on Tracks sounds like the title of a Dr. Seuss book.
