i am a newbie when it comes Lionel Legacy. I know that there are plenty of threads with complaints and jokes about how long we have been waiting for the Cab3 release, but that's not the intent of this thread. I have a couple questions that I hope someone can answer:
1. Can someone explain to me what is meant by "4-digit addressing" and how it is more beneficial than the whatever digit addressing we have now? 2. I have seen a picture of a plug going into the wall in the Base 3 brochure, I take take it that you will not rely on a brick or a transformer to power the Base3?
Thank you all for your patience and appreciate the education in advance.

Instead of two number address as in your TMCC engine ID all new engines will have four engine ID or should I say capable of four number ID

Thanks Gary. I now see the benefit on the 4 digit engine ID, is that you can then match the physical engine number and thanks for confirming the built-in power supply.

I think that to take advantage of four digit addressing you need an engine that will support it and these have only been made recently - before the issue of the CAB-3. Otherwise you are confined to 98 engine addresses (because 99 is a universal access number for all Legacy engines). Not a problem for most of us who have fewer than 98 or maybe even 20 engines (!) but I agree that going forward it expands the usefulness of Legacy.
I'm more interested in what the CAB-3 supports as respects operating feature of older Legacy and TMCC models. So far it seems that it covers everything but I'll wait until it gets here to see if it really does.

Don’t forget it runs all the LC engines as well.
