These side shots are about (1) my finally receiving and powering on something new and (2) chasing some items down obsessively over an extended period of time. Coincidentally, in the last week I have seen one or two threads here about (2) with people's searches often lasting many years - I think there is something Traindiesel! has been after for the better part of 20 years and has not nailed down yet. Whoever it is I feel for you buddy although my obsession only seems that long when in fact it may only have been 4-5 years.(Probably it's my vast age that makes things seem longer ago than they really were, in particular as on Monday I'll pass another milepost on my way to attaining Methuselah status.)
A couple of months back I posted about seeing a car like this owned by a collector I know. I found an older version of this CIWL Euro/Orient Express car, fortunately in working order as respects the interior lighting:
This is 2rail Euro O scale and won't see much running time because I don't have (and have no real interest in getting) a corresponding size engine and more than the few sections of 1:43.5 scale 2rail track I already have. It will be a passenger car display piece; watch this space. Meanwhile, the detail of this is pretty phenomenal when seen up close:
This arrived while I was trying to make time for my UP Generator Car project, something I hope to revert to by next week.

@el2558: The LIRR cars are beautiful. Probably wrongly they remind me of the K-Line Chicago South Shore & South Bend Interurban cars I have and the MTH fantasy Madison cars in the same livery. I should know but who made them and when? I'm guessing they are part of a club run.

Those are gorgeous - thanks! Occasionally I get silly and look up things like Elettren, Lemaco or Darstaed passenger cars but deals are few, if any lol. Dave

Dave I did get a deal on this - from someone looking to dispose of things he’d got over many years and never run. As I have said in previous posts, I saw a car like this one, an Italian-made Elettren model, some years ago on display in a foreign railway hotel and it took me a while to work out who made it. When I finally worked that out I started researching possible sources and then got leads through a 2rail collector contact of mine. Frankly I would never pay either Lionel or MTH prices for what they produce these days; I prefer to have a couple like this one rather than any of their sets. But this is a genuine scale model and not a loose representation of the real thing.
The search was part of the fun of finally getting this and I learned a lot about model railway car production along the way. P.S. The photos are of the same single car on a powered track in slightly different lighting.

I am not entirely satisfied with this arrangement but the CIWL car has gone in my display with the passenger car I think is the best I have or ever will, the GGD 3/4 SP dome that I worked on obsessively and is the subject of an earlier thread. I think I might reverse their positions at some point but that would involve cutting down the acrylic "step" that they are on, a noisy and dusty operation that I don't want or need to do now:
