Bear with me, as I haven't looked at this video (I'm at work...wink...wink)! A somewhat lesser known historic train wreck occurred in 1946 at my hometown of Naperville, Illinois. It was so bad that it resulted in permanent speed restrictions on trains. Essentially one Zephyr plowed into the rear of another one at or nearly 70 mph. My facts might be bit off, yet the story was often repeated while living there 1955 - 1973.

Great photo series. I guess posing in front of train wrecks dressed for the camera in our Sunday best is frowned on these days… 😉

I guess the opportunity to be photographed was pretty rare on those days so people wanted to look their best, even with a disaster as their backdrop. Very odd.

I believe that’s just how people dressed everyday during those times. They didn’t have t shirts.
Those were some fairly gruesome crashes.

When I was in high school, I remember it being on a weekend but a GG! went threw a switch tower in Paoli, PA. My father and I went to see it, and he took pictures but they didn't come out, it was a complicated camera to use.

Speaking of GG1 wrecks, there was the 1943 PRR Congressional crash on the Northeast Corridor in Philly. Pretty deadly. PRR Congressional Crash

Possibly the most spectacular train wreck that occured in France was this one : It was in Paris, 22 Oct. 1895, Gare de l'Ouest (today Gare Montparnasse) : a train from the Compagnie des Chemins de Fer de l'Ouest could not brake and stop, despite reversing the direction of the locomotive... OACE
