When I get a new freight car for a RR that I have not had before I check it out to see if it is or was a real deal RR. Well the Indiana & Ohio Railway at one time was a real deal shortline running around Ohio, Michigan & Indiana. Like other shortlines that build up a customer base it eventually gets gobbled up by a larger RR, which was the case for the I&O RR. 1985 was the start-up year for the I&O RR 1996 it was acquired by the RailTex RR corp. 2000 RailTex was acquired by Rail America 2012 Rail America was acquired by Genesee & Wyoming RR Bill www.youtube.com/user/seayakbill

Just because that’s what I desire on my railroad. I’ve been ‘burned’ before from not doing my homework. Specifically, some years ago I bought a beautiful MTH Great Northern ABA E8 set that the GN never had. Also a MTH Pennsylvania Railroad ABBA F3 set in Tuscan red paint. The PRR never had Tuscan F3’s. But they look great running anyway. I’ll use the F3’s to head my Penn American Railroad specialty painted Executive train!
That said, I have been seduced by the many custom runs, prototypical or not. I’m a sucker for a pretty train!

I like to check too, although I have it a little easier with CPR and CN cars. Canadian Pacific has been around for ever but with Canadian National there were several predecessor railroads like Canadian Northern, Grand Trunk Pacific and others, so I’m flexible with could-have-been paint schemes. There were even some paper railroads that were consolidated into CN before their construction was even finished, so I can semi-invent a couple.

Oddly enough I am NOT a huge fantasy guy or one who purchases rr's that did not exist. I also prefer scale items not the lower price point usually due to non scale size

I like certain railroads because of paint scheme alone. For example I like the UP and Santa Fe. If I see a car in UP that they never had but the paint is well done, ill add it to my collection. The Santa fe in the red and silver warBonnet scheme, if I like it ill buy the car no matter if its prototypical or not. I'm not really into fantasy schemes but paint a brick in the warBonnet scheme, I'm all in.

Bill, nice acquisition; and thanks for the historical context. My acquisitions are limited to post war Lionel, so I get the common available road names - I don't worry about how close their appearrance is to the real rolling stock - I just like a mix of road names. Alfred
