I’ll report on what The Voices guided me to when I get home. Can only remember two or three things. I’m still swirling in the Vortex of Fantasy that is the York Meet! I’m trying to avoid going to Nicholas Smith Trains and JusTrains before flying home. I don’t know if I’m strong enough to fight the gravitational force. Have to get through my Grandson’s first birthday party first.

Brian, you can stop by NST on the pretext that you are getting a train for your grandson's 1st (10th ?) birthday. Alfred

I got my walking exercise in at York this time... no big purchases... but I came close on a couple of goodies. However, self-discipline prevailed, as some pre-orders are due in a few months. Before I went to York, Mr. Muffin's just shipped a 3-pack of Atlas-O cure-for-cancer Gunderson well cars. And when I got home, a METCA invoice was waiting for the soon-to-ship New Hope 2-8-0 steam locomotive.
That's sort of what I mean when I say, "How can the market absorb all these custom-runs and big-ticket items?". Every time you look, somebody wants another $500+ here or there. Sometimes even more. But I guess at the end of the day -- just a sufficient quantity of these items are being made, where enough folks eventually either pre-order the new arrivals or scarf them up quickly upon their arrival at dealers. And then a nice segment of enthusiasts is buying on the secondary market at a healthy rate. So that's the new "steady state" of the toy train market in the 2020's decade.
I saw a couple of folks posting on Facebook in an attempt to alert York attendees of "flash sales" during the York meet days... which I thought was another creative way to sell product. I wonder how effective that turned out to be for him? He had some very nice stuff that he brought out to York, if someone decided to jump on his flash sales.
Meanwhile, my "virtual bandit meet" post to the OGF buy/sell board garnered an anemic 80 "views" in 8 day's time. Sorry, but that's pitiful. So I'll be looking for more effective ways to "casually" thin the collection in the coming weeks/months. But the ROI just isn't there anymore on forum buy/sell boards. The action is clearly on social media platforms like Facebook, YouTube and (ughhhh) eBay. All I can say is thank goodness for Allentown ATMA, where folks can see what they're buying without driving too far to attend!!! And the crowds are VERY healthy.
Also... MANY THANKS to a wonderful acquaintance I've made over the years who I typically see at York and Allentown. Perhaps the low-tech / high-touch personal style of selling is more my speed these days. And that's fine by me. My friend is now the proud owner of a Daylight AC-9. I know the AC-9 has a great home, and I didn't even need to post that on the buy/sell forum. <wink, wink>
Anyway... back to regularly scheduled programming. Let's see those York hauls!!!

Kidding aside, I do need to go someday, hopefully soon. My second and last kiddo heads to college in the fall, so my wife and I should have a bit more freedom. She knows how badly I want to go too.
The challenge in front of us is with our parents. My in-laws are well into their 80s and we are needing to visit Florida more often to help them out. Life, as they say, is getting interesting.
I do go to the Amherst show occasionally (they now have 2, one which is dedicated to O-Gauge and larger), and it is pretty impressive as far as I am concerned.

Adam, with a little pre planning you could spend a couple days at the York Meet on the way to Florida!

At this time in my life I am pretty well set for big ticket items. So now I am more of a "train tourist" at York and look for the odd parts to finish projects. Had a short list of stuff to get and got most of it. (Would have gotten all of it except for a couple of vendors who were more interested in themselves than their customers.)
On the other hand, I picked up a few "impulse items" that were very inexpensive and so I am now doing MORE projects instead of less! LOL!
All in all, didn't spend a ton of money, got quite a bit of stuff, got to see some old acquaintances and had a good time!
