I’m having a problem with my RW transformer. There is no power to the variable terminal posts (A & B). The fixed terminal posts register their specified current on my volt meter. When the whistle control button is depressed both variable terminal post (A&B) register the required electrical current. This is while the transformer is plugged into the wall power.
The circuit breaker tested good on both terminal posts (A & B).
The wire connected to the voltage control lever/arm and the terminal post “A & B” register continuity. So that’s good.
The slider contacts on the whistle control assembly had just been cleaned and appear to be working correctly.
I’m stumped! Does anybody have any suggestions to the problem or a fix?

Hello kars2026, Here is reputedly the schematic of the Lionel RW transformer - sorry, I never had one on hands to tell : And here is a link to the service guide of this RW transformer : www.modeltrainforum.com/attachments/lionel-rw-service-manual-pdf.574651/Personally, I would check the variable secondary wiper labelled 13 : it may have a poor contact, or a cut / desoldered connection. Reading the schematic above, I would place my DMM in ACV between D and C terminals to see if there's any variable voltage available here. Also if you can open that transformer, I would check the voltages between points 2, 6, 13. Let us know how it turns... OACE

Thank you for the information!!! I disassembled the RW again, using CRC I re-cleaned the entire transformer and contacts making sure the contacts were adjusted correctly. Then I compared all voltage and continuity voltmeter readings with my other RW. All the terminal post had the correct voltage and continuity readings and the transformer worked correctly. Back on the layout it is working great.
