I’ve got a couple of Lionel Legacy steamers that have some rather loud sounds. The Legacy NYC Atlantic and the Legacy Reading and Northern 2-6-0. They clink and clank and have a lot of random sounds. I do lower the volumes bit. Has anyone else noticed this. Are the sounds authentic.

Are the sounds authentic. Yes, Lionel records their sounds from Live steam engines. They also have one of the best sound engineers around. One reason Lionel sounds are the best.

I like the sounds of my legacy engines and earlier TMCC from 2000 till the advent of Legacy in 2007. Like all sound I find that sometimes it becomes annoying and I shut it off when I run trains. I also like to run my conventional railking semi scale gg1's from the mid 90's. They just run quiet and smooth.
Lionel does record some of the engine sounds but the have the habit of using the same sound set on numerous others of like wheel arrangements and size. Not that is bad but not every locomotive is authentic.

To the best of my knowledge Lionel’s sounds are authentic. Steam locomotives make a lot of clink and clank sounds. I turn the sound down to about 40%. That is loud enough for me.
