Hello all, I’m looking into possibly upgrading some of my old proto 1 MTH engines to the Proto3. Is it easy to do yourself or is better to have a certified MTH installer do it?
Also does anyone know of a place that does do the upgrades? I live in NY, so a place somewhat close would be good to cut down on shipping cost. Any info will be helpful.

I think the question about whether or not is easy depends on your skillset. if you are comfortable with electronics, soldiering and other related skills, then it shouldn't be too hard.
The bigger challenge may be to find a PS3 upgrade kit. I don't know if they sell them anymore.

Gotcha! I’ve been doing some reading and seems not to bad as I’m pretty handy. It’s just the programming side of it that concerns me. I have some nice old Proto 1 that are giving me trouble. I figured I upgrade them instead of buying new engines. There in very good shape just problems.

DCS PS3 upgrade kits are available in Steam and Diesel. As for someone in NY, maybe you do not know how big NY State is. A city would be a great help.

You can get the sound files pre loaded if you purchase from someone like Hemmings Trains or one of the other DCS guys you can find on some of the other forums. Even send them your engine and they will do all the work for you. I agree it's much better to upgrade these older engines than buy new these days.
