Has anyone added detailed interiors i.e. seats, lighting, etc to the 15" aluminum passenger cars made by Lionel, MTH, Williams, etc.? They all share a similar body and lighting for the most part. It's just a matter of finding some form of kit. Please share your thoughts and recommendations. Thank you.

I generally don’t work on 15” cars as opposed to those that are more scale size but these really nice Lionel aluminum Santa Fe cars are the exception:
I had to take some of these apart anyway to fix lighting issues. The interiors of every Lionel or MTH passenger car I have had to take apart are very sub-scale although otherwise these particular cars are very nicely done. Such interior assemblies are really much closer to S scale than O and S scale passengers fit them very well IF you can find them. MTH’s old Railking passenger car figures work very well because they are scaled down to fit in MTH’s car interiors. The other main sources are Artistta S scale figures and a number of 3D printed figures available via eBay. Figures described as O or 1/48th scale are just too big; some of them are actually European O scale at 1:43.5 which is bigger still.

My Milwaukee Road MTH/Railking passenger cars are populated and I plan on adding more people as soon as I can get some.

I have a set of Railking passenger cars with over 130 figures inside the detailed interiors. Some surgery was performed on some of the figures, always the legs need to trimmed on some of them. There is room for standing figures if wanted. Btw the figures are from China, well done and well painted. Dave Attachments:

Dave I think that the most number of passengers I have added in a single car (scale sized at nearly 22" long) is 40, but that was really going overboard/being obsessive. You don't need and in fact can't have huge numbers of passenger figures in a traditional size car, and as I have already said they need to be small scale - although HO figures won't work except in Vista Domes.

I used these people from Lionel in my Railking passenger cars. They are smaller than O scale. They are about S scale. I used them in all the cars including the vista dome. I used 1 pack, 24 people, or less in each car except for the vista dome, which took a few more.

One odd thing is that these are some of the same figures used many years ago in K-Line cars but not the best of what they used. Another thing is that the figures are slightly rubbery so the paint on them stays tacky and there are only about six versions of the sitting figures. But then I have scoured the world of the Internet for passenger figures that will fit inside 3rail passenger cars and ended up sourcing them from many places. The old Railking figures are second only to Arttista for quality.
