Hey everyone - new to the forum here.
Made the 4 1/2 hour trek to Nicholas Smith Trains on Saturday (which has always been good to me) and picked up a new MTH PS3 NYC Hudson #5401. Had them run it on the test track and it kept starting and stopping, but I thought this to be the similar issue with my 2-10-4 Pensy which had bad drawbar continuity so I tore it apart and hard wired the tender and engine together and they have worked great since. But after bringing the engine home and running it on the rollers for a few minutes on the test stand, I went to bed. Fast forward to Sunday, and I built a 40' long shelf layout with brand new track (end to end, manual reverse for right now.) I put it on the track and it would occasionally work then stop and I would have to let the engine sit for 20 minutes then try again. I fired it up tonight and the drawbar immediately started glowing red hot and smoking everywhere. I immediately shut it down, took a voltmeter to the track and all was normal. I put my other Legacy engines, and MTH 2-10-4 on the track and it works perfectly. This engine has now failed in a strange way, the lights on tender come on and sound works fine - bell, whistle, etc. But the engine appears to be dead. No lights, no movement, nothing. What should I do in this case? Its only been ran for maybe 10 minutes in total between Saturday and today. This is really disheartening in this hobby since I also got a dead Strasburg Legacy 31 0-6-0 with loose parts, melted wires in the engine out of the original sealed box.
TIA
