Outdoors? - maybe a garden railway? You can then launch real rockets. Alfred I’ve attempted to get approval for a garden railroad but the CEO would not agree. It’s probably not worth the effort out here anyway. Too much play litter, wild animals and crazy weather. G-gauge or O-gauge? I've been mulling a decent sized loop of waist-high O-gauge out back. It would seem relatively simple using some stainless Gargraves, but then it would just be another project atop a long list. I'm on the fence, Adam...shove me over. No more outside work anymore beings I moved to a over 65 apartment after selling the house. That and age ended that a few years ago. I loved it when I did it but no more.
I also miss the larger layout but realize I couldn't take care of that also. I know the layout I have I can work on it anytime I want and anytime of the year.
I also know that keeping interested in things helps as you age especially if your alone like myself. Having a hobby and friends is the best thing for a long life.

Sometimes a small layout can be just terrific. Mine is roughly 8x14, and it's about all I can handle. I can see myself tearing this down in a few years and going to a 5x9 or there-abouts, located in the center of the room where I can get to everything from all sides.
Social-interaction is a key focus, Dave. You gotta stay engaged.

Last couple days been boxing up a lot of locomotives that were used during the winter months. Will be switching them out with locos that have not been run for a year or longer.
