We have all had those phone calls with numbers we don't recognize. Well one day I answered the phone anyway. " Hi, a mutual friend gave me your number and said you might be interested in some trains. " Oh boy now what. " I used to work for Lionel here in MI and I have the whole set of employee staff Christmas Boxcars from 1985 - 2017 oh, and they are signed by Dick Koughn "
Well now you have my attention. So I went over there and yup, they were there. All 31 of them. Greenburg pricing was around $2100 for the set. A little to rich for my blood. So I had to pass. I did get a Angel Trotta Thomas caboose and a "Case Closed" mint car. Both were new in the shipping boxes.
When I got home and opened the Case Closed boxcar this is what was in it. Well this is kind of neat. Sometimes is does pay to answer the phone. Anybody care to guess what those Christmas cars might be worth ?

No guesses from me but that is quite a lucky find. Hope the guy with the set of boxcars finds a buyer for the whole set. I will guess that he has or does.

Yea, the push right now is to sell them all at once. If you take them to a show people will just cherry pick them. A reseller will only give you pennies on the dollar.

This is about the phone call,
I was at Eastwood Company (Automotive paint and supply store) in Alsip, IL. and instructor told us a story of his, he and 1 other employee were working 1 Sunday afternoon, and the phone was ringing and he asked his co-worker aren't you going to answer the phone? so the co-worker answered the phone and a lady on the phone asked if he was interested in car she needed to get rid of as her husband past away and she was moving, he said yes I am interested, she gave him the address, he went and looked at the car afterwork and it was a 1956 Chevy 2 door, he asked how much, she said get it out of here by tomorrow and you can have the car and the title for FREE.
The moral of the story is answer the phone, as Stoshu said you never know who is on the other end of the phone.
