Does anyone have a Marx signal bridge #1434 in their o gauge layout or know of someone who does. I have purchased one at a swap meet that came with no manual. I am desperately searching for someone to help with good diagrams to help with wiring, Thanks for your help.

Does anyone have a Marx signal bridge #1434 in their o gauge layout or know of someone who does. I have purchased one at a swap meet that came with no manual. I am desperately searching for someone to help with good diagrams to help with wiring, Thanks for your help. This problem with the original Marx signal has come up before and I dimly recall having a similar one with a later Lionel version. Anyway I have tried to help you out by checking what I could find and although I'm not sure that this will assist (you'll have to click on the image to enlarge it and peer at what appears to be a one page instruction leaflet), it's the closest thing I found on an auction site:
What this appears to be showing, and what is shown in the photo in your other thread, is that the bridge came with a couple of old fashioned Marx contact or pressure lock-ons, really only suitable for tubular track that is not screwed down. There is constant power to the green light and when a train passes over the lock-on it presses it down to make contact for the red light to be on instead. I have seen threads on another forum where this changed to using an isolated section of track or a relay, but that's beyond my understanding. The leaflet does not show any reference to using insulating pins so I think that this bridge must have been intended to operate using solely the contact/pressure lock-ons.

Thanks for your help. I think we will be able to make it work. If you can and do please tell us how! The double signal bridge is a classic accessory but I've only had success setting up the Lionel (a) cantilever single track signal and (b) semaphore, in both cases by trial and error using the Lionel infrared actuator (can't remember its name or SKU because they are banished as the result of operating/instructions issues).
