_ The s tory behind the acquisition: My sister and brother-in-law visited for the weekend from out of state. They have been going through their garage and brought items for me to look at from our parent’s house. My brother-in-law found a carton of his uncle’s that he gave to me. Included with the tracks and two old transformers in the box, were the two tinplate cars. There were two green Lionel 607 Pullman’s. They appeared to be in decent shape; although I don’t know much about pre-war equipment. This is the first time I have handled pre-war cars. (I had no idea that they would be heavy and robust.) I am thrilled to have them. With the aid of my wife, I will do more exploration – regards metal on air tanks,, nature of lettering, and vestibule doors – they are the lighted version. These two cars may have been from a set with a 608 observation and 252/3 loco ca. 1931-35. I am looking forward from comments from knowlegeable pre-war enthusiasts . Alfred
(I was so excited to share the news, that I decided to take the photo myself with my speech-enabled phone – let me know if I actually got the cars in view.)

healey36, also in the carton I got were 10 end of box flaps - one was labeled 607 Blue, and the other 608 Blue. Unfortunately, no cars with that description were there. I suspect that these were from another set? Alfred

Alfred, these cars seem to be in very nice shape, aside from a few easily fixable scratches.

I suspect that these were from another set? Alfred I'm not aware of Lionel producing any 607/608 passenger cars in "blue", but I could be mistaken. Is the word "blue" printed on the flap or hand-written?

Those look great Alfred! Be very careful, that pre-war stuff can start you down the tinplate rabbit-hole very quickly, haha!

What I like about the tinplate serries is the vibrant colors they used.
Now mine are standard gauge but they did the same in O gauge also.

Alfred GREAT story and photo, I recently purchased the set from a hobby shop, with #254 electric locomotive, two #610 Pullman, and #612 observation cars the same color as yours, you will enjoy them. Bob

Alfred the Mauve, Orange, Light green, and dark green passenger cars are 17 3/4" long, compare them to you cars, they are also like 6 1/2" tall and 3 3/4" wide you could almost put two of them in my passenger cars, Now these are definitely heavy duty, and to think small kids played with these back in the mid 1920's Yes these are standard gauge and yours are O gauge.

rtraincollector, those standard gauge cars you referred to are pretty hefty - that is some length. It is interesting that they were toys. Alfred
