This past Saturday morning, THREE Norfolk Southern trains were reportedly involved in a collision and subsequent derailment along the Lehigh River in the Allentown/Bethlehem PA area. Media articles I’ve read incorrectly report a couple of cars partially submerged in the river. But from what I can see in the photos, it’s two locomotives in the water — not cars, although several cars were tossed about on the track bed during the derailment.

I have been watching this and the recovery of the locomotives. Only one actually touched water and it was just the nose. Interesting watching them recover it. They actually let it go on it's side and then drug it up the embankment.

I believe that accident was on a former Lehigh Valley line and I do run an O gauge freight consist with that fallen flag, engine and caboose. I am familiar with the lower Saucon/Twp area as my gun club has its range adjacent to the ROW. That was also where the Bethlehem Steel Co had a large plant that made cannons during WW 1.The place was bulldozed long ago

A hobby is defined as an activity that someone does in their leisure for pleasure. A club or forum is a group of like minded people that share a common interest. The PEOPLE that collect and run the trains are the hobby and the first priority. Therefore bit of humor, a personal greeting along with talk of model trains is a very good thing.
Getting back to the Norfolk Southern crash it has been clear and that mainline is running again

News reports are showing a Lehigh Valley 40 tonner over on its side along with a cut of LV hoppers on the ground along side of the river.
NTSB investigators are now on the scene along with the Lionel heavy wrecker derrick car and are righting the cars and dragging the loco up the river bank after initially dropping it causing it to fall on its side.
The sturdy Post War Lionel LV 40 tonner suffered no damage due to its oversized and heavy construction even though it fell from the river bank on the table all the way down into the flooded basement floor that constituted the actual river. The sturdy simple electric motor has no apparent damage and was disassembled by the railroad's owner on his work bench, blown out with compressed air, re-oiled and re-assembled. The cab and shell was properly washed with warm water and soap and then towel dried and polished with Armor-All and the loco completely reassembled and test run and passed the test.
The string of Post War LV hoppers were cleaned and inspected and NTSB inspectors located a cruddy wheelset that was listed as one cause of the derailment. This was immediately disassembled and cleaned and re-oiled by the railroad's owner and tested out as well and certified fit to run.
Inspectors also found a section of track the had a bent rail and slightly out-of-gauge length of track and that section was replaced with new. The task was done in minutes. OSHA personnel were on the scene to assure that all repairs were carried out using the latest safety measures and proper protective gear. No injuries were reported.
Total down time due to the accident was approximately 1 hour and the costs of repairs were less than $10 total. This resulted in no loss of dividends to the LV stock holders and no change in the regular scheduling of freight movements along the line.
News reports that the U.S. Transportation Secretary will visit the accident site "one of these days" but is presently tied up with Congressional Budget Hearings at this time. The President might visit the accident site someday as soon as he can locate Pennsylvania on a map and stay awake for the trip.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled program of enjoying your train layout. (BIG GRIN!)

Mr Meep
I know you are spreading rumors. How? OSHA takes days to come and when they do they take MONTHS to leave and not without HEAVY HEAVY FINES and work stoppages. The you have the NTSB who want to hold up everything just cause they can. Then it takes YEARS for them to identify the problem, Fine the owner, DEMAND that it be cleaned up to their specifications and also will not let you touch anything till they say (which means you hire an outside firm to cleanup). Only great news - no permanent damage to the 40 tonner. Biggest Failure - Owner having a flooded area and not draining properly! I see major fines and hollering happening by associated parties! LOL

I LOVE THIS! We need more humor and levity now days! Maybe some others here can keep this going for a while? Remember, the idea in this hobby is to HAVE FUN and ENJOY!
ETA ...
Given the present state of affairs in government the above mentioned bureaus will be too busy investigating each other to be bothered with doing anything to the railroad owner or the affected population from the accident. (It was reported that NO haz-mats were spilled and NO injuries or fatalities happened, so, as usual, the respective organizations will just pencil whip things and call it a day.).
BREAKING NEWS! The Secretary of Transportation has announced that he will be riding his bicycle to the accident scene personally. His expected ETA is projected to be Octember 35, 2043 at 17 o'clock.

Depends on his age. I saw on TV an important (or suppose to be) person riding his bike and he fell off in front of the camera. But he also has trouble walking up or down stairs or in a straight line.
