The zinc rot seems to be a consistent thing with this exact model the more I look into it. Thanks to you suggestion, I did email MTH parts. They have an alternate option in stock with black wheels and I'm in the process of ordering it. Hopeful that this will work out! Please could you post the part number of the alternate option with black wheels once you receive the part from MTH. Sounds like your going to have a great operating locomotive after your part arrives. If you need help switching the new part I can help if needed. Bob

Got the part today and got it switched right away! The wheels are different style and are black instead of gray, but other than that, it was an exact match! It was a pretty easy to switch everything over to the new drive block and was all a perfect fit. I kinda like the black look and will consider painting them gray at a later time, happy I was able to get this part since they said it was the only one that would work. Im just happy to have my Hiawatha working, it ran great after the swap! The part number is DF1200001 on the MTH parts site! Hoping this can help someone else out should they ever have this exact problem.

Thanks for posting the substitute part number from MTH, I have had good luck with MTH parts (when I could not find part I needed in stock) since Mike retired and new people are running it.
I think locomotive looks good with black wheels and white stripe (like a white wall tire).

Both engines arrived today. Happy to say they were NIB as described. Definitely not feeling the sting anymore and feeling it was a great deal now seeing them in person! Can't wait to get these on the track! Nice!

jdekan was kind enough to send me his OLD power/drive block for a experiment of mine, so here is what I have at this time, The MTH substitute power/drive block part #DF1200001 has BLACK wheels (you could paint BLACK wheels to match your original color wheels) power/drive block fits perfectly to original per @jfekan verified with his locomotive and operated fine, MTH contact information by e-mail: info@mthpartsandsales.com (They are GREAT to deal with). I removed 5 of the wheels and 2 of the axles, when using a wheel puller some of the outer edge of wheels was coming apart (cracking off, zinc rot issue) Axle size: diameter 0.188" (4.78mm) Axle length: 1.571" (4.71mm) 2-traction and 2 NON traction wheels: Outer Diameter 1.607" (40.82mm) THICKNESS: 0.262" (6.67mm) Outer diameter of SOLID part of wheel (contacts the track) 1.404" (35.66mm) DEPTH of part of wheel that contacts the track to inner taller edge of wheel (I hope explained this clear enough) 0.172" (4.38mm) 2 - Center solid wheels Diameter 1.401" (35.60mm) THICKNESS: 0.185" (4.71mm) I am searching for 4 wheels (2 traction and 2 NON traction) that will fit original axles from other locomotives (to see if possible to make this OLD power/drive block functional again) Thanks again to jdekan for making this possible Bob EDIT: This information is for MTH RailKing #30-1127-1 Hiawatha Hudson Steam Engine Milwaukee Road Attachments:
