You know, as a new guy to O scale, I am blown away by some of it's failures. You (Lionel and MTH) sale locomotives with features that you have NO available operating system for? WTH? It takes years to get so called new systems to market, but you keep spitting out new locos daily? RIDICULOUS! There are NO excuses for this. We don't have this problem in HO thanks to NMRA standards. I love O scale for the bigger size, but I am starting to question my decision to get involved. If you are just a little capable, you can abandon the proprietary Lionel and MTH systems and install dozens of other systems in their locos. I have installed Blunami and love it.

But for sometimes now, Lionel seems to have lost some of its quality control on its engines and problems with color matching. Its good that we can discuss these shortcomings here, and solutions to some it gives a heads up to potential buyers. As to many Lionel especially those on secondary market have had problems fixed or problems don't exist. Either way, whatever the scale maybe, one likes to have good, honest, reliable information when there is especially a big outlay. Don't hesitate to jump in and ask anytime. Glad you joined up.

DCS will run TMCC and Limited Legacy. The App for DCS will also run Lionel Legacy 99% if you upgrade off the free version. (29.95 for the upgrade and well worth it.)
Lionel currently only has the remote for Lionchief (or the Universal Remote to run 3 trains). If you have Apple products (phone and or ipads) you can also use them with the APPLE APP! Currently they have no support for running trains with an Android or using the WiFi cameras that came in the theater cars and some cabooses.
Both are working on new systems. According to Rich Foster (MTH) the new TIUW is currently in production and should be here in April. Lionel has pushed back their release date again due to problems. Which Kudos to the for at least wanting to make sure it works as advertised. You can also still run Lionel products via good old conventional mode. There are several threads about changing the operating systems of all current types to Battery or Blunami. My problem is spending the money for something, I do NOT purchase things BTO or currently new till they have been out for a while unless I am forced to (example - my phone got destroyed and I had to purchase a new one. Can not get older phone so you are forced to go current which sucks in my book) and then throwing more money at it to change it over. It then could possibly be unable to be used on a club, modular or friends layout unless they support that system also. Battery will run anywhere but again you have to willing to roll out the money to upgrade to that. Especially if you are not willing to take your stuff apart. Some on here are excellent resources for help with different systems or conversions. All you have to do is ask and they are more than willing to help.
I post sometimes out of pure frustration. Most on here are very understanding and provide other avenues or sound calming advice or support. Once in a while the band wagon gets jumped on and everybody rants but it really is just out of everyone's frustrations they have had at times. O Gauge is great and a lot of fun. The biggest two drawbacks do not even concern operating system type. They are because of size you need more room. The second involves the first partly. That being because of size your scenery detailing has to be better. You can not see details on people in HO and smaller but you sure can in O Gauge as an example.
Never fret. Complain, spout off and then move on, as it is a great hobby to be in with excellent companions.

I have been running O gauge since the 50's when I was a kid and I have been running O gauge as a adult since 1970 when MPC came about and yes I have complained about numerous things about O gauge but all these years later I'm still running O gauge. I did run some ho and N scale but I always came back to O!! So Dont think all we do here is complain, we complain because we care! We care to make things better and help the mfgs see what the O gauge market wants and cares about. If anybody here has a question, please ask, most of us will try to help I know I will and we have many different people with all kinds of skills and thoughts. So don't despair we all here love O gauge, we may have different opinions every now and then but we still love O gauge!!!!

Ron, you should do a tutorial on the subject in your spare time of course! My YT channel is full of upgrades for RailPro, BlueRail and Blunami. Here was my first conversion. An Atlas AEM-7 running BlueRail on track power right along side DCS and Legacy on the same track. If there is anything specific you'd like to know, feel free to reach out.
