I just started running the Lionel S2 electric, the tinplate version with the three freight cars. At first I thought it was ridiculous but then the colors of the cars seemed to grow on me. Now I wish Lionel had added some additional cars. Maybe I’ll just need find someone to repaint a couple of cars. Maybe a hopper and tank car would be nice additions.

Which version are we talking about - pre-war 0-4-0 #153, the pre-war 4-4-4 #156 or the light green modern version which made a few years ago? If it is either the #156 or the modern version then any of the #800 series freight cars would work (I'm assuming the modern version can take pre-war couplers). If it is the #153 then you could go with any of the smaller series freights from the same period.
