So....I'm looking at grabbing a couple SD50s in Chessie livery. My question is should I go with MTH's SD50s that are coming soon, or Lionel's SD50s that are coming soon? Which manufacture seems to have the better model of the SD50?

I have the Lionel Chessie SD50 on order right now. I'm excited what that will be like. I originally had an MTH version, and that was great as well. Had green marker lights and fantastic sounds. So I would say its a Win either way. I just hope the color is correct for the Lionel version as some of the Lionel steam locomotives like the Strasburg 90 and the NYC Streamlined Hudson's had colors off.

That’s a tough question. I think it partly comes down to preference. I’m an MTH guy so that would be my choice. I’d imagine they both will be good engines. Maybe you need one of each!

Consider asking yourself a different question.
Do you prefer DCS or Legacy to control your trains?
Consider also, MTH is some quasi company with unknown support. Although from what I hear Lionel support is not much better.
Your overall experience will be better and happier if the model not only looks great and sounds great, but runs great.
