I just need to vent a little. I love trains and I do mostly O gauge but do have some G gauge too. Here is what gets me with the G stuff. There doesn't seem to be an industry standard on certain parts. A lot of the brands like LGB have their own parts and don't match well with the other brands. Here is my story. I buy trains, some new and some used, and some will have plastic wheels and some will have metal wheels. The metal wheels are so much nicer. I prefer all my trains have the metal wheels so I have to buy new wheels. Keep in mind there are different sizes. It is best to pick a brand and just go with it for all your trains. A set of USA Trains metal wheels are $10 and you need 2 sets per train so that's another $20. Next most trains for some reason not have knuckle couplers so then you need to replace those. There are many types of couplers also. And depending on what brand train you have you most likely have to make alterations to the trucks to get the new coupler to work. 2 knuckle couplers are $5. See where I am going with this. Next a lot of passenger cars don't have lights in them. I am stopping here. I just don't see why these companies don't have some sort of an industry standard. It ends up being a lot of damn work and extra money getting a simple train the way you want it. I am starting to feel like my decision to start G gauge was a mistake. That said I could probably have a few good rants on O gauge stuff too. LOL. Thanks for listening....
