Today while cleaning top shelving in our closet against the wall I found items I had forgotten I had. Actually I thought I had them but couldn't find them, so bought new items. What I found in last 3 months under cabinets, on top of cabinets, on top of shelving, etc. which I now have 2 or more of. SF-18" K Line Aluminum Sleeper SF-16" K Line Sleeper 9 different 18" NYC Heavyweight cars.
I also found an extra 4-6-0 MTH I had forgotten I had and an Atlas CNW switcher. Yes, we have a large house.

All the time, but I can honestly say that I have never found a forgotten engine! Thats like Christmas! One reason after moving and trying to unpack and not having a layout, you start stuffing items all over. Then as in my case, age and years if they're not apparent, you forget. Then, when it's time to downsize as we have been doing, you discover junk and treasures you had forgotten about. As in my case, I thought I had given away or sold items.

Walt, great finds. In my case, its the post war Lionel Bascule Bridge I know I had, but can't find it - I should stop being hopeful; it's been missing for about 30 years. Alfred

Happened to me a couple of times. Liked a couple of boxcars and a building kit that I bought an extra - forgetting that there was their twin under the layout.

What's really rough is when you forget what you have and buy another...then another... That's what my case was. After selling my "N" gauge items, and going into "O", I started buying stuff in "O". Then during my move and just storing boxes and items to spend more time in furniture, etc. Then when I started building my first "O" layout and after trackage and rolling stock was placed. I seen I needed this and that thinking I had them. So bought them. It has been the last several months when we began downsizing selling items like my Flight Helmet collection, books, wife's ceramics, etc. that we started finding additional stuff and stuff we forgot we had. The first thing was an antique dresser we sold and when cleaning and moving it for the buyer to pick up is when I discovered 2 engines which had been under way back. The closet top shelves because they sat well back and wife had blankets on top and comforters. It was only because I got on a ladder that I saw the passenger cars wrapped in those small bubble wrappers set up against the wall. First thing wife said was don't you have those on layout. LOL, I said no problem, when Donna gets home from her vacation I'll have her put them all on E Bay.

atsda - funny you should mention the bascule bridge - I've got the same problem. I know it has to be in one of the larger boxes I use for storage but I cannot find it. What makes this even more embarrassing is I have very carefully labeled the box contents on the outside and I have a map of the train room so I know where the various boxes are located. Oh well, it's not the only item that is MIA - I also know I have a red litho Marx NYC tender which goes with one of my sets and I can't find that guy either.

That's a kinda funny questions. I use to buy lots off of eBay. I would get them fix the engines, sometimes some of the cars, and put them under my train table and forget about the. When we decided to move from Aiken, S.C. to Spartanburg, I started pulling out boxes and boxes of trains I bought. I discovered I had 5 postwar sets I didn't even know I had. None with all the boxes to the sets but each had 1 to 3 boxes to the sets. I have since sold all due to down sizing, seeing I don't have as much room here I did there. But guess you could say I forgot about what I had under the table.
