I made a deal with myself. If I buy a new engine, I have sell one of mine. At present there is one I would sell. Another I might contemplate. Then a 3rd that would be painful. All the other 16, stay and are safe. Good thing I haven't seen anything of interest and if I did, it would be from the secondary market. Tested and all problems solved type.

Walter, why go through all that hassle of figuring out what to sell, trying to sell something, having to pack it up and you can’t find any tape, then truck it over to the mailing service and hope it makes it to its destination. WHEW!!! Exhausting!
Just page through the catalog and pick out two or three locomotives to order. It’s soooo much easier and feels better to give in and enjoy your treasures when they arrive. After all, what’s one more train? And besides, you know you’ll miss the train you sell. It’s like selling your children!!

It's really no hassle. I have my favorite engines that run more then 50% of the time. Then those that I enjoy doing the little things on the layout. Then 3 that I really don't use anymore, rather just run every month once around to make sure all is good. Same for some rolling stock, mostly Pullman type passenger cars I no longer run. If I was a collector, LOL, which I once was, they would probable have a place collecting dust. But every item now has to have a purpose on the layout and fit the Era I model. As to packaging, etc. that's not a problem. But yes, I do have 3 engines I would like to add permanently and they would have plenty of running time. But outrageous pricing, dependability, correct color, and not being a generic engine to represent what the lettering say it is and isn't has kept me from acquiring them. Gimmicks added isn't making an engine a must have for me if it isn't correct. I bought my best engine from a friend that wanted to upgrade because it had a swinging bell and I got it at half what he paid for it originally. But he wanted the swinging bell which I didn't notice till he pointed it out.

I was skeptical when it said new-in-box, but it is indeed a forty year-old newbie. I'm wondering what, if anything, I should do to it before getting it on the track...
