Page 101 of the new catalog list - #1939 (Red) 2443040 New Yor Central engine- the following is from the catalog description, “”
Features the same performance as the locomotives in our Lion-Chier starter sets.
My question is how powerful is this engine – how many car is it designed to pull?

I have no honest reply, but if it's anything like the MPC starter sets I would say it's designed to pull 3 or 4 cars.

The only thing that is a "starter" engine that I have is one of the Menards Santa Fe diesels, which is fairly heavy and has pulled the 10 scale size freight cars I put behind it just as a test run. Can motors have come on some way since MPC and I assume that where the Lionel catalog refers to motors as "maintenance free" a can motor is what these engines are supplied with. Personally I would not count on them reliably pulling more than 8-10 normal cars. Starter sets are always supplied with less cars than that but I think it's done to limit the cost as much as anything else.

Those are the same starter engines they have used for years. With electronic upgrades. As mentioned above 8/10 cars would be a safe limit.

I agree with the others 8-10 cars.

8-10 seems a good number, no?
