Looks great...would have looked even better if the locomotive was on the track.

That is incredible, Adam. It almost makes me wish I had a Microsoft account.

Looks great...would have looked even better if the locomotive was on the track. Some of the detail, if you inspect deeply, are certainly not correct. But this technology is coming along very quickly. In a year or two I expect it to be almost perfect. AI had a huge problem with the detail of hands (actually incredibly hard for human artists too) not long ago, but it has come a long way there as well.

Virtual toy train layouts have been in development for years...this is a sign that that work will likely accelerate, eventually reaching a point where one can construct a virtual layout that will rival the look and feel of anything that can be built tangibly. Hopefully I'll have six feet of dirt piled on me before that becomes a reality, but I suspect not.

Looks great...would have looked even better if the locomotive was on the track. Until I read Adam's post I was going to comment that some of the cars appear to be curved! I actually wondered whether they had been made that way to run on circular track - DOH!
I can't say that this sort of thing appeals to me and if I wanted a really intricate Christmas scene I'd probably do it in N or Z scale.

Very cool, not being very computer savy, the picture above is a digital drawing? Yes or no.

Very cool, not being very computer savy, the picture above is a digital drawing? Yes or no. Dave It's a computer-generated image alright, but of an advanced sort. I still detest it compared to the real thing. But I'm a dinosaur accordingly to lazy people who can't be bothered to create anything in 3D themselves . . .
P.S. How about Lionel creating digital-only Big Boys to run on an imaginary layout at $2K list price a pop? Somehow I don't think so.

Artificial Intelligence is fascinating, scary and, as of yet, very imperfect.
The entirety of those images was generated by the computer (really a data center full of computers) based only on a prompt. I asked it to "Draw a Christmas Themed Model Train Layout". Thats it, the machine did the rest.
What is fascinating about this is how these things work. They are loosely based on our own neurons. They learn similar to how we learn, from information. These Generative AI models that have been in the news are trained on the entirety of the Internet. It is possible that it even learned from some of the material here on OGF. In other words, it learned about train layouts from images of other train layouts.
Where this all goes, who knows. It will be interesting to follow.

When I first saw it I thought it was a nice display built be a real person with lots of skills. Watching the comments started me thinking this was not a real photo of a layout but a digital creation and that's why I asked the question. Amazing what can be done and as time goes by it will get even better.

Being somewhat fascinated by Adam's Pic of the big boy I tried DDA40X leading train thru Mountains. And got this. FAILED BIG TIME! Colors are wrong and it is not a DDA40x.
