... Yes, the lack of Legacy features is a downside for 3rd Rail/GGD but then people are getting their stuff more for detail than play value. ... I'll even go a step further, in that I really enjoy the VISION LINE Legacy Railsounds with roadname/roadnumber unique dialogs. And that's likely never gonna happen with 3rd party offerings. My layout supports 4 trains running independently, where I can sit back and just watch trains roll. And it's cool to activate dialogs unique to each train. The generic Towercom/Crewtalk can get a bit "old and tired" when all the train crews are saying the same thing... and even worse when the dialogs consist of the same voice talent. That's another reason I don't mind spend a little extra for Lionel Vision Line offerings and some of the special-themed trains.

I don’t think all of the Legacy offerings these days offer roadnumber or even roadname unique sounds anymore. Some do. Long gone are the days we got that in even LionMaster models.

Was gonna wait and pay the waiter's fee for two Hotbox reefers but when Dave said on the live stream that it's essentially a VL reefer with the Hotbox sounds, I am going to preorder them instead

... I don’t think all of the Legacy offerings these days offer roadnumber or even roadname unique sounds anymore. Some do. ... Very true. That's why I mentioned I don't mind spending a bit more for Vision Line products, because they typically have the roadname/roadnumber-specific dialog sequences. Occasionally, a special-themed product like a Christmas or Halloween locomotive will have unique dialogs too. But that's pretty much it when it comes to non-VisionLine locomotives.

... Burlington AB E5 - I like that it's CB&Q but hoped they would be plated to better match the K-Line California Zephyr cars and I hoped for E7s or E8's. Still need to do some research on the Burlington Northern E8 set in relation to the California Zephyr that Mr. Muffin is offering from Atlas O....
WOW!!! I completely missed the fact that Mr. Muffin's is doing a custom-run Burlington Northern E8 set. Seems he's also doing passenger cars too, which all in all is a fabulous price/performer compared to Lionel's new offering.
I was a bit disappointed to hear on the Ryan & Dave catalog video that the name of the train called out in the StationSounds diner in this catalog would likely be The Texas Zephyr. I was hoping it would be the California Zephyr, in which case I'd grab the StationSounds diner and use it with my existing Lionel 18" aluminum CZ passenger cars.
Then again... 2024 is the 75th Anniversary of the California Zephyr's inaugural train in 1949. So perhaps Lionel will offer a full complement of CZ locomotives and passenger cars in their 2024 Volume II catalog. So I haven't given up hope yet.

2024 custom-runs continue to be unveiled… today’s email blast from Legacy Station offers more licensed Space Force offerings including a Legacy SW8, a 3-pack of scale tankers as well as a different single tanker too.
So many cool offerings this time… enthusiasts are gonna need a second job to afford everything they want. And if you’re retired, you’re gonna need a “side hustle” job to keep the train fund at a healthy level. LOL!!!

Just an observation…..
There was a time about five years ago where I thought I had all the locomotives I wanted. Especially when we all thought MTH was going to be gone forever. Still there are very few offerings that are must haves for me anymore. (Except for the 3Rd Rail Siemens Chargers)
My list of wishes from the Lionel 2024 “Big Book” totaling over $10,000 gives me pause, as it should. I haven’t even tallied the cost of items I’d like to get from previous catalogs and announcements that are still available. Because of how much these trains cost since the importers cashed in on the product demands during the pandemic, it’s not as fun as it used to be. There’s a lot that I’ll have to let go of.
I certainly don’t need sympathy as I have a boatload of trains. The difference is that most of what I bought was brand new stuff that was being deeply discounted and I didn’t need to be a bottom feeder. Even though my focus is much smaller, funds don’t go as far as they used to. I’m now content with buying what I can and not feeling the need to buy it all. I have enough to last a few lifetimes. (Hmmm. maybe I helped Mike Wolf retire!)
