I received my new faster spinning gearmotors the other day. When I ops checked them, I found out I now have a howler. One of them just screams when its running. I'm going to disassemble it and swap the internals out from one of the first 2 I received. Then I'll ensure everything is lubed up. Hopefully it'll quite down.

I received my RailSounds card yesterday. I installed it in my project and Nothing! All I got was a "Pssst" when the power was initially applied, Then nothing. I put the card into my station sounds dining car this morning and the result was the same. I sent an email to Lionel just now, so I'm hoping I get a new sound card soon. Just my luck, waiting all this time for the 50% off sale and I get a dud.

What were you using to control and power the sound board? I think that these are designed to run with a Legacy board. I looked at one of these RailSounds Lite boards and passed because I could not figure out how to "mate" it to Legacy control.

Well, Apparently I'm not allowed to add an attachment when using "Messages". So I'm just going to throw this out there and hope it sticks. I got this info from Lionel this afternoon. This is how the power cars are wired using the RailSound Lite board. The only way to get it to work with your Legecy controller is to add a RCDR board. You can get the P/N from any Station Sounds car. You just got to wire it in. But the power car only has the generator sounds and maybe some clancking and banging that comes from the Hall Effect Sensor.
Good Luck.

Right, here is the wiring diagram converted to a .jpg image and rotated:
I'll have to look again at my Generator Car from the original UP Excursion set but I am pretty sure that this is how it is wired without an RCDR so that the only on/off control is manual via the switch and the volume pot controls sound level. My idea is to insert a Mini-Commander in the circuit to provide remote control via one of its LC outputs. I could lose the Hall effect sensor because I don't need/want the clickety-clack option. In one of the OGR postings Dave O thought that this would work.

Thanks for converting that. And yes, its strickly manual. Yes, there's no RCDR in the Power Car. I forgot you were going to use the mini EX. DUH! I was just suggesting if you wanted "Legacy" control you'd have to use the RCDR. Yeah, just leave the sensor disconnected. Less wiring also. Once I get my railsounds board back from Lionel I'll see if that bothers me too. I just may follow your lead once again and leave mine disconnected too.My Overland Dining Car is enough for me I think.
Also, My hump should be printed soon. Hope it turns out!

Have looked at that and it’s very impressive not least with the rivet detail! Plus all that you have already added to the roof which I confess I have not done much with yet.
I should really get a move on with mine. . .

Well, I dont have it yet, and it's only a BETA version. I feel that the roof isn't curved enough. It looks too flat. We'll see when I get it.

Well, as I have said of mine it is too flat to be scale accurate but I can live with that - or I will have to as I cannot embark on another build. Your guy’s diagram actually looks more accurate to me. But many a slip ‘tween cup and print as it were.

My wait is almost over! The 3D printed Hump is in the mail as I type this. I'm hoping it'll be here by the weekend. I'm so excited. I'm still waiting on my Railsounds card to return from Lionel. Seems the card was never "flashed" with the sound file. I returned from York with a whole bunch of Fastrack for the layout, and also the 2327270 UP Excursion Pack 4 from Brady's Trains. This Excursion Pack gives me the last 2 cars I need for the Bush Funeral Train. The "City of San Fransisco" Dome car and a car to build the Sleeper car "Portola". More to follow in the future.
Until next time....

Until next time.... It's extraordinary that Lionel failed to program the sound card . . . But I'll be very interested to see AlanRail's print, so I will look out for what you post about it - hopefully at the earliest opportunity. Meanwhile I have done some further work on my version of car #2066 but it will probably be next week before it's in a state that I am prepared to show.
I will note at this point that we seem to be on parallel tracks as the City of San Francisco dome car is another one of my works in progress. It's the signature car of the Lionel UP Excursion Train set and I went over the top working on it. I'll add a few photos later when I work out how to access them on this device.

Not to hijack or divert this thread (honest) but jayhawk500's mention of the City of San Francisco dome observation car takes me back to the origin of my fascination with the UP Heritage Fleet and generator car #2066. I suppose that all this post really shows is that as I have already admitted, I don't aim to create scale replicas of any 3rail cars (and my version of #2066 won't be one) but I do cram in details to "represent" the prototypes. I went hog wild on this one where the mostly accurate Lionel interior assembly cried out for embellishments . . .
The first couple of photos show the slightly drab stock version and UP's own leaflet of the observation/dome interiors:
The rest are my own whimsical representations of the main compartments, including the "Ladies Lounge," and I used a section that can't actually be seen through the car windows to house the interior lighting power modules:

Your killin' me Smalls! That looks fantastic. Where did you get all the small details and where did you find the "carpet"?

Your killin' me Smalls! That looks fantastic. Where did you get all the small details and where did you find the "carpet"? The small details are mostly 3D printed “quarter scale” (1/48 or true O scale) miniaturist/diorama or dollhouse stuff, including all the food and glasses, dishes etc. There used to be more of this stuff around than at present because bigger scales such as 1/12 are more popular/easier to work with. The “carpet” is an inkjet on fabric sheet print based on a scaled down image of a real pattern. I’ve done lots of these over the years. My favorite is what I put in a GGD 3/4 length SP dome car:
The curved seats in this were “upholstered” with flocking material that can be sprayed on rather than trying to use felt.
I used the same printing and flocking process on the carpets and seating in this UP “Lone Star” Business Car, which is also part of the UP Heritage/Excursion Fleet - so if #2066 ever gets done and put on the rails it will be in good company:
