Hollywood film star Harold Lloyd's Christmas tree: My tree's not quite there, but it gives me something to strive for, lol. Back when I frequently travelled to California for work, I would occasionally visit an antiques "gallery" in La Jolla. On more than a few visits, they had a few baubles from Lloyd's tree for sale. They went for a good bit of money, but now I regret not getting one (or ten). Lloyd was terrific, a great comic, and one of the few stars that seamlessly transitioned from the silent to the talkie era. Here's a cool site describing Lloyd's tree: Harold Lloyd's Christmas tree Where, exactly, is the tree? The tree was at Lloyd's home in Hollywood, California. The tree no longer exists, nor does the house. The photo was taken in Lloyd's home: Photo courtesy of the Library of Congress.

What I mean is, I can't see the actual tree with all of those ornaments.

Oh, sorry, lol. I showed this photo to my son just a bit ago and his thought was that, in this instance, a bowed sheet of plywood could serve as the underlying tree.

Then sometimes, you just get carried away: Gotta be a single guy. Looks like prewar O-gauge Lionel, and just behind him, a bit of prewar O-gauge Flyer.

See, I think that is fine. But instead of standing there, get a nice comfortable chair in there among the trains and enjoy.

Prewar Lionel, an Erector or Meccano construction set, a few of those composite "putz" buildings, a 270 single-span bridge, the gateman, a pair of manual turnouts, a crossing gate, possibly a Marx tunnel, not to mention a big ol' cast-iron radiator to keep you warm...some great prewar stuff here: I've got three original Flying Yankees in the project pile...I'm gonna have to get at least one of those back in running order for 2024.

Getting your first Erector set was always great (even if everyone else played with it): We have a few of them around here; mine, my kid's, and The Old Man's.

Marx on a Christmas morning: Figure-eight; can't quite make out the loco, but likely a postwar set.

Jayne Mansfield at Christmas: I can't tell if there's a train under the tree or not; not even sure there is a Christmas tree in this photograph.

Sorry if I crossed the line, but I noted a very haphazard application of tinsel here (unless that's the effect of static electricity).

Okay, last pic I've got...me, Christmas morning, 1957. The Old Man is antagonizing me with this dumb hat: Just a few putz houses, a couple bottle-brush trees, no train, and just a year and five days old. If I'd known then what I know now... Merry Christmas everyone. Looking forward to 2024.
