Just a quick idea. Set up an account on TikTok. There are hundreds of train related contributors on that site. They get a pretty good amount of traffic and views. TikTok is a bit easier to use too, just a shorter format. I post things there…mainly my dogs, but I have a couple train test videos too… www.tiktok.com/t/ZT8UtBDmw/Tom

By and large, you've received some good advice here. Although I personally have ZERO experience with TikTok. I've stayed as far away from that platform as possible and have no plans to tinker with it.
Bottom line... I wouldn't worry too much about building subscriber numbers. They will come in time. No need to rush things. Stay true to yourself. Be sincere about who YOU are. Don't try and imitate what's already been done elsewhere -- regardless of how "successful" someone else's YouTube channel might appear. JUST. BE. YOU.
Most important of all: COMMUNICATE CLEARLY. Create a reason for each video you post, and ensure you tell the story. Most of these kids doing YouTube videos were raised to speak in front of a video camera when they were in Kindergarten. So by now, it's second nature for them. If you're not comfortable with public speaking, take the time to hone those skills. And always remember who you're targeting your message/story.
On a somewhat related note: I do get a kick out of all these different social media "platforms" though. They can be a bit mind-boggling at times. Here's a recent example of what I'm talking about:
Eric of Erics Trains posted a recent video of Lionel's Aberdeen, Carolina & Western passenger train over on OGR a couple of days ago. There was one response on the thread. ONE!!! Although admittedly 6 OGR members took the time to click on the "heart" icon indicating they liked it. Still... that's not very many. BUT over on Eric's YouTube channel where the video resides, the video has been viewed 8,000 times with 550+ "likes" and almost 80 comments in the same 2 or 3 days.
Truth be told... I'm not sure whether that says more about special interest forums or the breadth of the general YouTube audience. Just an interesting observation.
