Last night I visited Nicholas Smith Trains in Broomall, PA to pick up an MTH exclusive run of Strasburg RR woodsided passenger cars they produced in recent years. I could have had them ship it to me and avoid the 45-minute drive. But I haven't been to the store in months, so I thought why not take the ride. And while I was there, I saw the new MTH UP #1111 SD70ACe "Powered by Our People" on display. Although I didn't buy it, I gotta say it's probably something that will make its way onto my roster eventually. It's one of those eye-catching paint schemes that neither the catalog nor online videos seems to do proper justice. You've just gotta see it in person to appreciate the appeal of its graphics.
Here's the MTH website highlight video to show you what I'm talking about. But trust me when I say even this video doesn't do the graphics justice. So when you see the model in person, you'll know what I mean....

You are lucky, I don’t have any nice hobby stores near me.

David
Helping out on Saturdays at the LHS I get to see a lot I would miss if only doing online. The Santa Shay is one of those I would have never purchased but once I saw it in person, had to have it. I always get to test most of what comes in so that usually is hard on my wallet.

There is a lot more to going to a local train shop other than buying product. I made many friends by just hanging out and talking trains with the staff and customers. I sure miss that.

Brasseur's is about 45 minutes from me. Their stock has dwindled over the years and they cut down on used stuff they will stock. Still nice to visit.
That is a nice looking engine. They keep putting these things out that make me want to also run MTH on my layout!

Try Great Lakes Hobby. If its not in the case Tom can find it and give you a smoking deal.

David, I agree 100%. A visit to a good train store is a lot of fun and seeing things in person is way better than in photos or on a computer screen. I liked the green NYC E8s when I saw them in the MTH catalog but when I saw them in the store I was sold. Roundhouse South is a 2 hour drive for me, a 4 hour round trip, but it's worth the making the trek at least a few times a year.

There are times that I visit Stockyard Express 2-3 times per week and I still get butterflies every time I pull into their parking lot. Its always an adventure and you never know what you'll find. - Jason

Jason, I talked to the folks at Stockyard Express last week and they were very helpful. They went out of their way, speaks volumes as to who they are.

Their excellent customer service has placed them on my VERY short list of "go-to" MTH dealers. As I've often said, people do business with folks they LIKE. So I'd be in very deep trouble if they were one of my LHS's.

Many of you know P & D Hobby, We have him and another who visit's our club meets. We recently lost one shop and several years ago lost Wild Bill's Trains. One other shop that has been taken over by the sons has turn mostly to upscale toys so things change but shops are still a fun place to visit.
