Thanks Adam, I have received it. Are there instructions on how to open the box? Do you open the top or side first? Alfred

Adam, I should have waited for your reply; I used a mallet. (You took me too literally.) The printed items were well done; no less than professional. Alfred

Adam, After I glue all of the small pieces I created, the crossing sign can be assembled. Seriously. you did a nice job with the printing. How large is your printer? How long did it take to produce the piece with the light fixtures? When my son has time, I will ask him to assemble and paint the crossing sign. Thanks. Alfred

Great questions Alfred.
There are two parts to making something with 3D printing. The first is to design the parts. To do that I used a combination of Computer Aided Design and downloading parts that others have created and are under a Creative Commons license (which means we are free to use for whatever we want). Designing the crossing slight took about 8 hours over a couple of weeks. Lots of trial and error to get it right.
Each kit takes about 5 hours to print.
My printer is a hobby grade printer so it is a little slow. The build volume for the printer is 227mm x 148mm x 150mm. That is the maximum size of the object I can print. The crossing sign didn't take up much space, but I printed one at a time. So, if you consider that I printed 20 kits, that is about 100 hours of printing. It is mostly a set it and forget it process but there is clean up and realignment steps in between as well as the occasional checking in to make sure the print is going well. Also, I didn't print every day as I need to be home to do it.

Has anybody had a chance to build their Crossing Sign kit? I am on the edge of my seat waiting to see what everyone has come up with.

I won’t be able to build mine until we are moved into our new house. Right now we don’t know when that will be but hopefully before the end of the year.

Great news! As of this morning, the OGF Crossing Sign kits are on the way to all members who have made a donation. There is still time to donate and receive a kit. Here is a copy of the instructions that are also included (in paper form) in the kits. It includes a list of suggested supplies you will need to complete the kit. I thought I would share it here so that people can prepare in advance. We are grateful to all of our members and especially thankful to those who were able to make a monetary donation to help us pay the forum bills. Thank you to everyone for making this the wonderful, close-knit community of O-Gauge enthusiasts that it is! Let's use this thread to share photos of our kit build. I've shown this photo before, but this is what mine looks like after building it. I can't wait to see what others do with their kit. Looks good adam, mine just came thanks so much. Gotta figure out colors.
