Schneider Model Railroading closed shop around 2014. For many years they had a booth at York and I had a number of long and very interesting conversations with the owner. All of the engines were models of actual locomotives. The General McCallum was a product of Mason Machine works as were several of the other locomotives SMR offered. The Amenia was built by Rogers in 1850 and there is a picture of the engine in White's book American Locomotives on page 166. In the same book on page 390 is a builders picture of the McCallum tender - the engine was another Mason product. The owner did a tremendous amount of research for each of the models he manufactured. He was in contact with almost every historical society that had any information on 19th Century motive power. As an aside - the owner was hunting for any information concerning the Yonah of Great Locomotive Chase fame. There are no known blueprints but in the course of his research he found the purchase orders for the Yonah and the Amenia and discovered they were the same build with the difference being the Amenia was the "loaded" model and the Yonah was the stripped down version. In the case of the Yonah, he was well on his way to production for both engines when additional information was uncovered concerning the Yonah's tender. In keeping with the "stripped down" version the tender was shorter and did not have two 4-wheel trucks. Since he was determined to offer models that were as historically accurate as he could make them, he built all new tenders for the Yonah.

It was made by SMR trains. They turned out a series of Civil War 4-4-0's, PRR 4-4-0's D6 and D6a from the 1880's and several V&T engines. In addition to this they made some very nice Civil War passenger and freight cars, passenger cars to match the PRR engines, and a caboose and some freight cars for the V&T engines. I should have guessed it was SMR by the quality - including the authentic tender load. I’ve posted before my own side shot of two of their Civil War engines but here it is again for comparison/reference: P.S. I also remember the owner's meticulous attention to detail over the "Yonah" - such a shame that he had to cease business, something that he also dealt with in full (and grim) detail.
