Left: Lionel 2460 Bucyrus Erie Crane Car (early version;1946-50) Note: the 6-wheel trucks. Right: Lionel 6560 Bucyrus Crane Car (1956) Note: version without smokestack. The cab rotates on the chassis. The wheel on the side operates the hook, the wheel at the rear raises and lowers the boom. _

My Dad had one of those cranes - just one - and I remember turning the wheels. I've been around so long that I remember smoke pellets! (I much prefer fan driven fluid for max output.)
I'm a big TMCC/Legacy operating crane fan. This is my SP version although it has given me control problems almost right from the start, but it still has a nice side view:
Ignore the "Bucyrus Eric" misprint on the boom - all the cranes in this issue had it.

How about harking back to pre-modern UP days with this side shot of my small civil war steamer corner, consisting of the Texas and the General:
These are O scale engines I got many years ago from a now sadly defunct company that I think was called SMC. The "golden" spike is from a souvenir shop. Those are pretty cool! I dont see many of them usually. I know I want something like these eventually, just haven't found one that quite fits what i'm looking for yet.

THOSE ARE REALLY COOL WESTERN LOCOS AND VERY EXPENSIVE. I HAD TO SETTLE FOR LIONEL'S GENERALS, HAVING THE VIRGINIA AND TRUCKEE, UNION PACIFIC. AND WARR MODELS. I HAVE THE COACHES, HORSE CARS, WATER VAT CAR, CUSTOM LOG CARS, AMT CONVERTED BOBBER CABOOSE, MTH RAILKING TANKER AND KLINE CANNON CAR. THE LIONEL V AND T ORE CARS AND THE V AND T MINT CAR ARE IN MY V AND T YARD. THE CARS I ENJOY THE MOST ARE THE 3 SHEFIFF AND OUTLAW CARS, 1 BEING THE POSTWAR VERSION. SINCE I LOVE WATCHING THE "GRIT" WESTERN CHANNEL WITH TALES FROM WELLS FARGO AND OTHERS WITH ALL THE TRAINS OF THE ERA.
