OMG John, Terrific idea. The Styrofoam is incredibly easy to work with. I see your knives on the floor. Do you heat them? Will you cover the pieces with plaster cloth? How did you attach them to the frame? Is this a current project? I think it will be a very unique finish to your sides.
I like the high density sheets. Carve them up use a rasp to fine tune then, easy peasy.

I think extruded foam is my favorite, wrapped with plaster / paper towels glued on rock castings. It gives you the ability to micromanage each shape

Yes, paper towels dipped in plaster, I used wood elmers glue to attach. I finished the project a few years ago. The only downfall is when the dog walks by with happy tail and wacks the tree foliage off the scenery...
