Always liked Fall decades ago, and still do. But then, it also meant Harvest time was here. Besides working a full time job for Amoco, I had 510 Acres and another 500 I leased. It meant 3 maybe if I was lucky 4 hours of sleep a night. Getting up at 3AM to head to the fields and start. Then stopping at 7AM to get ready for my other job, come home and Harvest till darkness, supper and bed, and start all over the next day. But I wouldn't have traded it for anything in the world. Fall was refreshing cool clean air. Watching the tree leaves change their colors and our animals start getting thicker hair on their bodies. But it wasn't always work, there were the nights on the porch swing were me and the wife watched the sunset, hearing the chickens as darkness moved in go to their coops, the horses rolling in the meadows and cows coming to pick-up what I failed to do with the combine. There's a Magic about Fall that no other Season can fulfil, its short but golden in nature and the sky as evenings come quicker. I miss it greatly.

The fellow that owns the house where we have the club layout owns a farm and sells hay to farmers. The last place we were at was a horse farm. I have a friend who owns a lot of acres and leases most of it to a farmer and keeps two acres for herself.

It is not work it is Love! People forget so easily that FARMERS FEED AMERICA AND THE WORLD!
Thank a farmer sometime when you see them. Shake their hand and just say Thank You! You will be surprised at how we respond. Genuine heart felt warmth!

When we lived in New York autumn was my favorite season. It’s the only time of the year that features beautiful weather most of the time. The colorful trees provide a few weeks of incredible scenery, and of course Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day are coming. After the leaves fall the trees are naked and depressing. It gets dark so early it seems like it’s night most of the time. Autumn is beautiful up north but the rest of the year stinks so I’ll stay in Florida. Y’all can enjoy the bitter cold, snow and, worst of all, ice, especially black ice. Falling on ice isn’t a recommended activity for seasoned citizens.

Joe,
I hear what you are saying. I grew up in the suburbs in central NJ and as I became a young adult I came to really despise the cold and the snow. While living for 20 years in CA we ended up driving to snow which was a rough 3 hour each way trip.
So, when we decided to come back to the NE, I was adamant that it would be on my terms. I wanted to live in the country in a town that embraced winter as I saw happening in Lake Tahoe. Our town is like that. We are surrounded by conservation land and beautiful trails. We do a lot of snow shoeing an hiking in the snow. We also will light up the firepit and sit around with a hot cocoa. There are multiple winter festivals in the area and a small ski/snow tubing resort nearby. There is also a snow mobile club in town and they pass through the trail adjacent to our backyard almost every evening when there is snow. Winter clothing has also come a long way since I was young. You can get some very good layers that keep you very warm.
The snowfalls are also peaceful and a joy to walk around in with the dogs. They love the snow.
While I will admit that when we get into April it can be a bit long in the tooth, we know at that point spring is close and we even see signs of it with the snow on the ground.
If you live in the snow, you need to learn how to enjoy it and make it part of your lifestyle. Much easier to do that in the country.
