What is your best tip or advice for anyone attending the TCA York Meet (or any other train meet)?
My best tip is that if you see something you like, Buy It Now! It usually won’t be there when you come back later.

Take lots O cash. Dealers will take credit cards but most tables will be cash. The ATM often runs out of money. Oh and wear comfortable shoes. Fashion is not what you want for all that walking.

Have fun, that’s the best advice. I’ve never been to York but that’s my plan for all train shows.

Go see Jack Pearce for lighted vehicles in the Orange Hall. Catch him early as he sells out quickly.

It usually won’t be there when you come back later. I agree with Emile, if you see something you like and the price is reasonable buy it. Don't wait as it probably won't be there when you go back to buy it.

*If you will be going for all three days or more and no one else will be at home, put a stop to your mail delivery for the duration you’re away. You can do this through the USPS Website.
*If you pre registered remember to bring your badge.
*Bring rain gear in the event of inclement weather. Also bring a couple big trash bags to carry your goodies to your vehicle if it’s raining.
*Dont forget to pack any medication
*Dont forget your phone charger
Most of all, have lots of FUN!!

Another critical tip. Remember to share photos of what you bring home with your friends here on the OGF!

There is frequently a line at the concession stand in the lobby between the Blue Hall and the Silver Hall. Skip it and go to the concession stand inside the Blue Hall (near the back). There's never a line.

Cash is ALWAYS king. And in the dealer halls... if you pay with a credit card, many will collect sales tax.

Definitely bring cash...oftentimes you may get a discount if you use cash AND bargain the price!. Also look under the tables....sellers often have so much goods, they have want you want under the table!

Wear STOUT shoes with GOOD toe protection! People tend to not pay attention and walk on your toes and run into you from behind with carts and wheel chairs.
I found the pext protection is to FIRST buy a LONG section of my favorite 3 rail track (about 3 feet long and carry it around under my shoulder. It affords a "buffer zone" and tends to keep encroachment at a minimum and then I take it home and incorporate it into my layouts.
Also a GOOD large cloth bag/cloth grocery bag with large handles or get your wife/GF to sew on a web shoulder strap is great for carrying your purchases around and still affords a hands-free ability to examine other additional purchases.

Make sure you bathe before attending York, and try NOT to crop dust other people. Yup, there are those who really are that ignorant.
