An admission of $23 to attend York sounds a bit steep. I don't worry about it as I am not going but how do you attract the public at that price? I believe that its time for the ED to think about their policy at York. I once suggested some changes to the ED leadership and got an answer we can't do that "we've been doing it this way for years"

The way I see it, with the absence of major dealers not just Lionel, most of the big dealers and a serious drop in TCA member attendance they have to pay for the halls some kind of way.
Last time I was there (I worked for TM Book/Video in the Orange Hall), they combined the other dealer hall (I don't remember the color) with the Orange Hall and there were still empty tables. This could be the end of York as we know it.

…….This could be the end of York as we know it. What’s even worse is that the IRS will be coming for our trains! If you’re having too much fun you’ll be taxed. Heavily. If you don’t pay the ‘Fun Tax’ they will haul your trains away in U.S. government supplied tractor trailers and ship them back to China, on our tax dollars.
You’ve been warned!

Why don't you just pay the $50. and join, and support the TCA.

The reason that I dropped out of the TCA several years back as I felt that they were not fulfilling their mission statement. Lets take a look at it "To develop an appreciation of and to preserve an important segment of history—Tinplate Toy Trains—through research, education, community outreach, fellowship, establishment of collecting standards, and to promote the growth and enjoyment of collecting and operating toy, model and scale trains" How and what is the TCA doing in the education and community outreach missions? Does the TCA set up layouts in shopping or community centers to teach the next generation about trains and educate the public or do they just take the money of the "old faithful". As for growth, it doesn't seem like they doing anything to promote the hobby or even grow their own organization?

My schedule has changed and I won't be able to attend as a guest. I am disappointed, as I have heard that it is quite an event. I was interested in buying some items. I joined LOTS in 2005; at that time, I was not aware of all of the different train hobby organizations, including TCA and LCCA. Alfred

As for growth, it doesn't seem like they doing anything to promote the hobby or even grow their own organization? I wonder, what is any organization doing? Train shows have always been the most obvious outlet to learn about model railroading. And in this day and age the Internet has more information about trains than most anywhere else. Don’t underestimate how younger kids can see a layout at a show or a neighbor or online and look up all the info in the world about trains.
The issue has always been generating interest in participating. Even when I was growing up in the 1960s, there were about 10-15 kids around my age in my neighborhood and only three of us had trains running at Christmas.
Id say the TCA is doing more than most. There is plenty of information on their website.

I believe the York Meet, or any train show or meet, is the result, the end game, of being involved in the hobby. Not the start.

It is unfortunate that Lionel will not be at York Week. Maybe the Brightside is that the other venders and manufacturers will get more notice and customers. Then, they may be able to help sustain the hobby. Alfred

I did want to go to York Week this year (for the first time); however, schedule and travel would be difficult. It would be great to hear of your impressions on the Forum during the event. If you have time (and not inconvenient), as you are going through the sales area, would you keep a look out for a PW Lionel 125 Whistle Station, and a PW Lionel 362 Barrel Loader? If you see either in good condition, would you let me know the price and vendor’s name, and I could then contact them. Thank you. Alfred
