Seems on my layout there are so many areas I see need changes or improvement. One is to add more country scenes, a small truck stop family owned eatery. Raise trackage a little in these areas and add a Grain elevator. Make town smaller. So, anyone else have changes they wish to make or improve upon? Believe it or not, I get many ideas from our members here.

Currently, I am working on the far end of the CIC side of the layout with a 54" viaduct. Next is a major Parade on 42nd Street.

I have an un-built track which failed the clearance test with actual scenery and building mock-ups - the trains wouldn't fit! One track had to go and was added to the other side of a scenic divider. I now have a two track yard at the mine siding and only a single track planned for my "disappearing branch" behind the passenger station. See the solid red track vs. the red dotted line in the much-abused plan below (top, right). Dave

For me it’s more about storage. Have too many things in box’s for my liking. Hoping to add a few shelves in the near future.

Interesting Topic. What would I change if I could? TRACK CLEARANCES! I can't due to mountain already in place. SOOOO I can not run Bigboy, #80 Coal Burner, Coal Turbine. BUT I have managed to tweak the layout clearances enough to run my DDA40X and am extremely happy about that.
What I can and need to do is SCENERY! My wife does most of it and does an excellent job, albeit slowly. But I am not complaining as it is not my cup of tea so to speak. I just can not get into scenery.

When I was in "N" scale, after finishing my layout, I suddenly got the urge to get bigger engines. Never thought about clearances. Looked good, but my 1st large engine taking part of my mnt. cutout away convinced me to start check and make changes.

When I designed my layout, I made the choice to use O54 curves to get the most out of my real estate. I gave up running my UP Veranda. In a bit of narrow thinking, I limited myself to O54 switches, too. I have a crossover area between my two lower loops. They consist of a pair of Left O54 switches and a pair of Right O54 switches. I was using Atlas track and I didn't look beyond what was right in front of my face. Not all of my engines like this crossover configuration and express that dislike by having the pilot truck derail. O72 would have made a much smoother transition. No reason I could not have used them either.
I no longer have the strength or dexterity to work in that particular part of the layout, so I am stuck with what I have and having to restrict certain locomotives from using the crossover.

When I built the Hill Lines realism was the objective was four operating loops and that is why I scratch built nearly every structure to fit a specific space. It worked out and the layout looks good but my regret was that I could not blend in or find a space for more than 3 operating accessories. The layout has a coal ramp (my design) that works, an MTH coaling tower and an operating milk car.

I have not given proper attention to my layout since 2006. I have removed almost all of the scenery and buildings (none of this was permanent). I am almost finished with track repair. I have added two more switches to the main track section and added an independent oval to the center of the layout. What I need to do now is to create blocks, so that I can run 3 trains simultaneously. I also have to strategically reposition 4 accessories. The biggest challenge now is to re-organize the maze of wiring underneath the layout - I did not pay attention to logical organization when first installed and now have to go back and redo pathways, so that when I do additional work, it will make sense. now and hav

I forgot to mention that I need to complete a very short extension to the west side of the layout (to accommodate a 10” expansion on 3 tracks). I recently extended the east side to place two ½ straight track sections. This was needed to separate two parallel curved sections – they were too close, preventing the inner track to be used as a siding. Alfred
