I have a like-new Lionel 700E 6-11209 that has intermittent startup issues. The tender railsounds comes on when power is applied to the track when it is not functioning properly. The engine does not move or function and I need to reapply the power many times before it finally functions properly and receives the engine number. When the engine finally does look for its number first instead of the railsounds coming on immediately, the engine will function well once it has been running. However, in a few hours, the same problem occurs--the tender railsounds starts up first and the engine does not function. I anticipate that the receiving module in the engine works on an intermittent basis. As of January 1, 2022, Lionel no longer repairs engines out of warranty and the most service stations have been eliminated as well. It is best to contact Lionel and ask them to change their repair policy so that they accept trains out of warrantee for repair purposes.
Does anyone know who repairs boards or replaces boards in Lionel products out of warrantee?

GUNRUNNERJOHN is the man for the job. Here is his e mail. GRJatOGR@will-enterprises.com
That guy cost me a lot of money and used refurbished parts and boards that died in less the 6 months is how I found out. When I paid for ERR system. I was never told. Plus he charged me for a sound system that was never installed in a "B" unit. If it hadn't been that it was my first "O" engine, A-B-A NYC that my father gave to me 3 months before he passed away, I wouldn't have spent the money to have it upgraded when the PS-1 system died and wanted to have it running. It caused me to spend and pay him 380.00, (not including shipping), then it cost me an additional 425.00 to correct Gunrunnerjohn's work, all on an original cost that my dad probable spent less then 220.00 for, but it was the last thing he ever bought and it meant a lot then and still does. Its one of the main reason I won't go back to the other 2 Forums he is in and if he ever comes here, I will leave. I have never disliked anyone until I met him and his excuses afterwards making it my fault. My fault for finding out he didn't use the parts he charged me for and lying afterwards they weren't available which a check up was false. He thought he was dealing with an amateur and treated me as such. I apologize to anyone here if I over step by posting this.

A member has requested help in repairing an engine and that is one of the functions this forum can provide. In response to the members request Laz has made a recommendation for John Will. Shortly there after Walter has made a post about his experiences with repair work performed by John Will. These two posts are @ opposite ends of experiences with John.
As we pride ourselves on the OGF with frank and honest conversations at all times. Please keep this in mind with any further posts to this thread.

This forum allows for differences of opinion and ideas and open dialogue. I think it is great that we are able to share different experiences to ensure members have more information from which to make a decision.

First recommendation is to look up your local Lionel dealer or go to the Lionel website to locate the nearest dealer that is also a Service Station. They might be able to make the necessary repairs if parts are available. Failing that there is an individual that comes to mind Alex M, I’ll need to look up his last name, that is highly respected. Lastly, Lionel can provide you with a list of the independent Service Stations. These are individuals that attended the training classes Lionel held. They were trained in repairing the electronics.
John Wills is not one of these individuals although he claims to be an Authorized Lionel Service Station. He simply works for a Dealer who is a Service Station, Hennings in Lansdale PA. John is an MTH Service Station having attended MTH’s training.
Unfortunately you may find that there may not be any parts available but you won’t know that until you get an evaluation of your problem.

I have 2 questions on all this chatter. I have used and still use John and have not had any problems but I do not doubt Josef is saying. SO here are my questions. 1. How does someone contact Alex Malliae? 2. Where is he located? I deal with John and have had not had any problems and he is an hour away so no shipping I take it to him. I am all for spreading out repairs to GOOD QUALITY repairs if close or shipping is not high. Thanks Curtis

amalliae@aol.com
He is located in and a native of the New York City area - as you will be in no doubt about if you speak to him or watch his videos. He is, hands down, the best Lionel repair source there is, and vastly superior to Lionel themselves.
I have dealt with GRJ before but only for components, not major repairs. All of his products worked for me, especially the lighting components - except those I blew to smithereens as a result of my own stupidity, which I have also done with ERR products. I have also met him once, at York. I am really sorry to hear about any issues with people who, overall, are an asset to the hobby.

This discussion of repairs of Lionel or any of the modern engines and accessories is certainly needed. Having or even knowing of a knowledgeable source is very important. If you want to find out all the authorized Lionel Service Stations within a given area or state all you need to do is send an e-mail to talk to us at Lionel.com.
Lionel will get back to you with a listing of all the Service Stations within those areas. This includes both Dealer associated service Stations along with the Independent Network they set up years ago. Unfortunately not all Lionel Service Stations do work on the modern electronic equipped products only those who have had the training sessions that Mike Regan, former employee of Lionel, held several years ago. Also included in the listing you will get from Lionel are the Individual Service Stations that have undergone that training. Alex M is one of the independent trained Service Staions.

WALTER, Sorry to hear you had a bad experience with JOHN. Everything he has done for me was far above and beyond my expectations. I have bought lots from him with the regards of ERR and his lighting modules for passenger cars. He was always there to answer my e mails and give advice for problems that arose.

Would you believe that Lionel now has the cs-691RCMC001
RCMC / RECEIVER / DRIVER / HUDSON / 6-11209 today. I sent an email to Lionel yesterday at TalkToUS@lionel.com and the Legacy receiver was available today--I promptly ordered it. As I own 17 Lionel Legacy locomotives, I am happy that Lionel reacted so fast and now, thanks to this website, I can now send it to a recommended O-Gauge Forum member to install it. I did call Brasseur Electric Trains Inc. in Saginaw, MI, and they said that it would take about two weeks to repair—impressive but Brasseur did not have any Legacy receivers in stock.
