Way to go DAVID!!!👍👍. Mine too came in on Monday but didn’t get it out of the box until Thursday. Only two things were wrong with it the boiler plate was in the box and had to be re glued and the right front yellow step had fallen off. I had to replied that. Runs and smokes real good and the fantasy scheme is perfect. Enjoy your engine! I am.

I have had the 3000 for many years and it is my favorite steamer. Best ever from Lionel. The fantasy paint scheme is just super.
David & Laz. enjoy them, you will.

Brian, I'm sure this steamer will quickly rise to the top of the roster as an all-time favorite. As I mentioned earlier, my interests veered away from articulated locomotives a few years ago. But this one is unique. Despite its 2-10-10-2 wheel arrangement, this is NOT a humongous-looking monster (i.e., like the Big-Boy which I don't own). The Big Boy never caught my interest. And to this day, it still hasn't. But this 2-10-10-2 really is unique. It's well-detailed, yet the drivers are small -- very much like a 2-6-6-2 mallet I own. And the boiler lacks the bulky "heft" that often comes along with many articulated steamers.
I'll be curious to see the Valley Flyer passenger set that is due out in the next couple of weeks. That would extend this color scheme quite nicely. And that's what I was thinking would pair nicely with this locomotive, since it's a fantasy scheme anyway. I just wish Lionel would have packaged the heavyweight passenger cars as a separate ala-carte offering. But the 2021 catalog was big on high-priced passenger sets already paired with a locomotive -- the Valley Flyer being one of them. And yet for the red Pacemaker Mohawk steamer, Lionel offered the locomotive and matching red boxcars with caboose SEPARATELY. Go figure!!!

David, your comments about the 2-10-10-2 are spot on David. This locomotive has such a terrific visual appeal.
No wonder you like it so much.

For those of you who like the Valley Flyer paint scheme, it appears Lionel's online webstore is showing the Valley Flyer Passenger Set now in-stock with a "few left" banner. The pre-order button has been changed to "add to cart". So I expect dealers should have them on shelves shortly. Whether any dealers will break up the set or not remains to be seen. I suspect not many will. So if you want passenger cars for your 2-10-10-2 Valley Flyer, you might need to buy the entire set... and either sell or keep the 4-6-2 Pacific locomotive that comes in the set. Of course... if the Pacific comes with an optional dummy O-Gauge coupler up front, the 2-10-10-2 and Pacific could be double-headed in front of the passenger cars!!!
P.S. Lionel's webstore is also showing the Veranda Turbines with an estimated ship-date of 1/12/2022. But the products still have a "pre-order" button -- not an "add to cart" button. Either way... January is shaping up to be a whopper of big-ticket items coming in for delivery. And February continues in the same vein with Mohawks due to ship on 2/4/2022. (And if the Red Mohawk is calling your name, the red Pacemaker boxcars and caboose already shipped in January.)
O-U-C-H !!!! With hits like this to the bank account, who needs a new catalog now???

Verandas - Ro still shows these with an expected availability date of March 10, which I think hasn’t changed recently. I’m a little curious as to where these are coming from - the TMCC version was from Korea rather than China, which I long thought was reflected in its quality. Now I guess it depends on which factory has taken on production and what is its commitment to QC . . .

The prototype SF 2-10-10-2s were freight engines, thus making the "Valley Flyer" paint scheme a true fantasy. The passenger set being led by a Pacific in "Valley Flyer" colors is more like the prototype, so you are not likely to see many "set" break-ups.

.... Ouch is right for the set at 2400, that’s a lot o cabbage 🥬!!! And I suspect we'll also see a number of sets pushing big-ticket price points in the upcoming Lionel catalog due out this Friday. I feel for enthusiasts just starting out in the hobby these days.
