I just wanted talk about how much I enjoy my Legacy. I was running trains yesterday and just sitting and listening to the train running around the layout. Legacy engines have fantastic sound (not a big fan of the crew talk, but I'll play it for visitors).
Over the years I've learn to run the engines as if they were real. I also like to set the Cab2 so the engine has a heavier chug so when I make it go it sounds like it's pulling a heavy load. My TMCC engines don't have that sound, but are still fun to run.
When I go to York I'm going to look for a Legacy steamer. Right now I only have Legacy diesels. I have two TMCC steamers, one diesel and a couple of ERR engines.
My first official post.😁

Very cool Denny. I also am a Legacy fan!!! It is, IMO, the easiest system to install and use. Clip it to the track and away you go. Flawless operation, no dead zones, no loose wires and the handheld controller is easy to use. The one problem is the limited locomotives Lionel has available without spending a fortune. MTH appears to have more variety in their line up. I wanted a Genesis engine and ended up purchasing an MTH Phase 4 Genesis used. Had it converted to EER and run it with Legacy. It isn't perfect and thought about installing DCS but just don't want to go through the headache of rewiring my layout. Maybe someday I will, but just not now. Congrats on starting your first thread.

Thanks Wood, This is your first reply. I'm going to look at some MTH engines at York, but I'm on a mission for a Legacy steamer. It has to be able to negotiate 036 curves. Something like a 0-8-0 USRA switcher.

Hey Denny - If you like the small Legacy Steamers get the NYC 4-6-0 ten wheeler... great sound and nice Legacy features... it will not disappoint. They released two versions. The first one had a smoke issue but Lionel repaired them for free.

It handles 0-36 curves no problem.

O-42? really? I have been running my engine through 0-36 through a hidden tunnel for quite some time... begs the question, what is going on in that tunnel. Let me double check... How about the Legacy Atlantic? That's been on traveling around the O-36 loop great too. It has great sounds too.

I absolutely love my Legacy system as well. Careful Denny, once you get hooked on steam and their beautiful articulation, anything else is just boring! My two favorite Legacy engine types are the Pacific and Berkshire, but I also have a USRA 0-8-0 that is smooth as silk if you need to stay with a smaller radius.

I was into TMCC when I started O about 18 years ago. I graduated to Legacy in 2011 when I got my first Legacy engine and now I have 4 legacy engines.

This is just me, but I love Legacy over TMCC, DCS in that order. Love how all Legacy engines speeds are matched and calibrated and Railsounds is by far the best sound system and any scale. Now if Lionel would only fix their QC issues and life would be perfect.

Denny are you planning to add DCS if you buy a MTH engine? I am no expert on it but we have it and it is not as simple as Legacy. We were all Big Orange for many years but decided that we didn’t want to be limited. Given the QC problems, I think that we made the correct decision.
One alternative is to have TMCC installed. PTC does this.

Hmm I guess I am odd man out. I prefer DCS over Legacy. I believe it is MUCH MORE Easier to use and it will run Legacy while Legacy can NOT run DCS. As Long as we are all happy and promoting the hobby all is well! Curtis

Curtis I use Legacy, don't have any MTH engines, I didn't think DCS would allow you to use the Legacy features, I thought you have to run Legacy engines in TMCC mode while using DCS.

JKP Yes the basic remote will only run Legacy with LIMITED functions (basically as if were a TMMC Engine or Locomotive). BUT the MTH ADVANCED app will run it with 99% of the LEGACY Functions. This is how I run my Legacy Engines. I guess if you stated with the Legacy Remote the size and functions are easy to deal with. If you started with DCS you are use to a simpler remote and smaller. One of my biggest complaints is the loss of Legacy signal and having to run ground plane wires to compensate for it. DCS does not require that. Others complain about OUT OF RANGE with DCS, but I have only had that a couple times and it was usually something simple. I personally believe BOTH can and SHOULD live together. I am not one who BLEEDS one brand only. I prefer MTH. Why? Less expensive, Easier Operating system (for Me), no wheres near the failures and quality control seems a lot tighter, No Mis-color of the colors, and the biggest - Their heads haven't grown real huge to the point that they think I can afford everything and will accept anything they manufacture. AND YES I DO LIKE LIONEL and own several. Lionel does have a better quality sound (due to speaker size) but the last Berkshire from the 2020 MTH Catalog has a sound that definitely matches if not surpasses Lionel's.
Keep it on the tracks
Curtis
