I only have Steam at the moment. Do have a couple of MTH dummy units the son likes and some 3rdrail F3 on order but it's all steam.

I actually get as much enjoyment starting up and running around the track certain diesels on my little roster as I do steamers. In no particular order they are the MTH DD40AX, Lionel Legacy AC6000 and Texas Special E7 A-A. The sounds on all of these are very pleasing to my ear!

I don't have a preference. It depends on what I'm in the mood to run. This week it's steam.

When I got back into the hobby about two years ago I thought it would be all steam for me. And while steam is my favorite I’ve found that diesels can be almost as fun. Certainly diesel color schemes are a bit more interesting than what is usually found on steam engines, but the detail, chuffing smoke, sounds and articulation of steam engines, not to mention the smell of an antique steamer from early/mid century just does it for me.

While I like both, steam is just more interesting to watch. The movement of the rods, valve gear, and smoke is just fun to watch.

I do like both steam and diesel, but since most of my passenger train equipment is the Lightweights, the diesels comer along for the ride.

I like both, steam and early Diesels. I really have no preference, since I use a card system I came up with. Its the draw of the cards of what I will run for the day and how I will run.

I like both. Steam has a certain power and action that is more attractive. Unfortunately, it is more expensive.

I grew up with diesels so I have an affection towards them but tammie loves steam engines of which we have a few more than the diesels! its all good to see any of them running on the tracks I usually have one steam and one diesel running at same time on separate tracks as I tried running 2 trains on same track and it always bit me in the backside with rear end collisions.

Streamlined Steamers bridge the gap for me: Santa Fe Blue Goose, NYC Dreyfus Hudson and Lehigh Valley Black Diamond to name just a few.

I like both steam and diesel locomotives but voted for steam since there was no option for liking both equally. I chose steam because I find the chuffing of a steam engine slightly more pleasant than the roar of a diesel.
