...First off, here's a better picture of the new upcoming Lionel Legacy Norfolk & Western Class A. It is a beauty but I'm not sure I like the shiny boiler paint and the non-shiny tender. But I'm sure it's just the prototype and the produced product will be different. ...
Brian, according to Ryan Kunkle, only the N&W #1218 Excursion model will have the glossy finish. The other handful of road-numbers will have the usual matte black finish. So you won't get off that easily. One of those other model in next year's catalog might call your name after all.

Traindiesel Great times and great explanations. Thanks. Sorry I did not get to meet you in one of the halls. Maybe next year. Great job! Thanks Curtis, I'm sorry I missed you too! I usually spend 90%of my time in the dealer halls. But after waiting two years to get back to York I was spread all over the fairgrounds in all the Halls this time. We'll have to make a point to meet up in April!

David, I'm sure I'll be watching it very closely. But since I already have a TMCC version I'm more in the market for a Y6b to complete my Norfolk & Western big steam trifecta. I found a couple MTH PS2 versions at York, but I'm willing to wait for a new issue Y6b in PS3 or Legacy. But I never say never!

It's taken me much longer than expected to complete our York Meet Travel Odyssey. We returned from the Meet with the news of two non-Covid sudden and unexpected deaths in the family. The second of which we learned of on the way to the first's funeral! I was thinking of just letting this thread disappear into the internet ethers, but I never like to leave a project unfinished even as we mourn our family that has passed. So I'll pick up where I left off.Saturday October 23, 2021I always start Saturday with a bit of sadness. Knowing it's the last day of the York Meet and knowing a lot of friends and people I haven't met yet have already headed home. But I know there's still fun to be had and trains to see and buy! Since I had seen just about all I wanted to see, all that was left was mop up duty. Going back to the Dealer Halls to scout out bargains or items I didn't have time to pick up previously. Funny thing is, without doing it consciously, I always seem to buy more stuff on Saturdays at York. I buy the "A" list stuff I see while I can earlier in the week and buy the stuff I kept in the back of my mind on Saturdays. This is where I really miss Vince's Trains booth. At this point of my buying and collecting career my focus has narrowed to a few select locomotives I missed out on or hope to see made. Gone are the days of gobbling up engines like Halloween candy. And that's ok, I'll have a lot of fun opening up trains that haven't seen the light of day yet when I get my temporary layout and my train building layout operating. So with that my searching was short. After walking around the Orange Hall for a bit, saying goodbye and safe travels to some friends still sticking around I trundled over to the Purple Hall to talk to Pete of JusTrains. Their long time coworker and York Meet stalwart Mike Hall had suffered a medical issue some weeks ago and didn't make the trip. He wanted to come but thought better of it. I need to give him a call! I asked Pete if he had any MTH AIU's. I'd been wanting those since 2004 but never picked one up. I figured now's the time since new ones were on the market. He didn't have any there but did have a couple left at the store. They arrived by UPS yesterday. One more foray into the Orange Hall to TM Books & Video booth to pick up their Legacy videos and book along with a "Trains Are Cool" t-shirt. The Legacy book was autographed by our own OGF member Bob Phillips. I told him now I could sell the book with his autograph on ebay for $100! After that I went over to JT's Megasteam to finally get one of those angled needle droppers for my smoke fluid. Hopefully it'll help keep the fluid from dripping all over the engine.By now the Meet was wrapping up and vendors were emptying their wares from their tables. I took a deep breath of sadness but still smiled thinking what a great Meet it was and how much fun we had. It was time to do the last activity, go over to the Silver/Blue Hall lobby to ship my goodies at the UPS station. Man, has the shipping gone up!! I didn't buy any locomotives this trip. The first time since 1998 I believe, but definitely the first time since moving west and needing to ship my trains home. The shipping for three items in two boxes cost as much as when I previously had shipped a half dozen engines plus rolling stock!! So I gulped and handed over my credit card. It may be less expensive to bring a couple empty suitcases and pile my stuff in them. But I fear the baggage handlers would treat them like basketballs and I'd arrive home with bags of loose parts. I guess I'm a captive audience and will factor in the shipping cost as a York Meet expense. You don't think I'm going to stop buying, do you??!!So the York Meet itself was over. But not the fun! It's time for lunch and our tradition of going to Latucca's Sub Shop for the best cheesesteaks outside of Philly!!After lunch it was time for the 2 1/2 hour drive to Philadelphia to check into the hotel at Penn's Landing on the Delaware River. It was raining lightly the whole drive but as we arrived the sun came out a bit and constructed a rainbow outside our window. After checking in we went to visit with my daughter Collette. We hadn't seen her since the last York Meet and then Covid travel restrictions. It was great to see her! We went to dinner at one of my favorite restaurants, The Pub in Pennsauken, New Jersey. It's an institution in our family. The Pub has burned down and changed ownership numerous times in it's 60 year history. But it always comes back the same, it doesn't look any different than when I was 8 years old, save for modern technological upgrades. We've celebrated many a milestone and Christmas dinners here.I used to be afraid of this guy when I was a kid!! I couldn't get a straight on shot because a wedding reception was going on in the room. I was afraid the bride might ask me to dance if I intruded! Me, my daughter and wife Lynley at The Pub.After dinner we went back to Collette's home and I got to see my grandcat, Ivy. That's my hand she was pawing at.After another long day ending at midnight, we retreated to the hotel to crash for the night.Coming up... the conclusion of "The Adventures of Traindiesel: Our York Meet Odyssey"

The conclusion of our wonderful trip.Sunday October 24, 2021Still some more visiting with friends while we are in the area. It's been two years and the phone calls kept us in touch. Today we visit with my friend I've known since high school and his wife. He's had a seat waiting for me at his layout, just like we used to. We had lunch at Cracker Barrel, I enjoyed it because there are no Cracker Barrel restaurants in San Diego County! After lunch we went back to their house and we ran some trains on his combined O gauge and N scale layout. After a while we retreated to the living room to watch some football. His wife commented that no matter how long it is between visits we just pick up where we left off!It was time then to go visit with Lynley's friend, a former coworker and close friend who Lynley has mentored over the years. We had a nice dinner in downtown Media, Pa. The SEPTA Suburban 101 Media Trolley line runs down the middle of the street. I was hoping for a picture but none rode by as we walked to and from the restaurant. But here's a photo of one. After saying our goodbyes it was time for the two hour drive down to BWI Airport to spend the night at a hotel nearby. There was no way I was going to trust I-95 south to Baltimore on a Monday morning rush hour traffic trip. And it's a good thing we went on Sunday night because there was the ever present I-95 road construction going through Wilmington, Delaware. The traffic was backed up even at that late hour. I can only imagine 7am traffic through there. We'd miss our flight for sure!Monday October 25, 2021
Woke up before 6am for the seventh straight day. (This is vacation?!) We returned the car, shuttled to the airport and got through security without incident. Got to the terminal early enough to have a sit down breakfast. As we waited for boarding I looked out the window and reminisced about all the fun of the past week. No! I don't wanna go!! The descent into San Diego. A thick marine layer (known the world over as 'fog') covers the county.Lowering below the cloud.Closing in as we pass the Coronado Bridge. (I've read that over 400 people have jumped to their death from the bridge since it was built in 1969) And the landing as we pass by the city skyscrapers.Arriving just after lunch time and after waiting half an hour for our luggage to turn up we headed for some lunch at the Lazy Dog Restaurant in Mission Valley. We were hungry after a five hour flight. Finally we got home. Just in time to watch some Monday Night Football. And that concludes our odyssey to the Train Collector's Association's Eastern Division Train Meet in York, Pennsylvania!! We hoped you enjoyed following along in spite of the delays in reporting.Coming up next...... Pictures of my goodies! The last of which finally arrived after bouncing around the UPS vortex.Tune in to the OGF for "The Adventures of Traindiesel"

Brian, first off thoughts and prayers to you and the family on the loss of your loved ones. Second totally enjoying hearing of your awesome trip. Just jealous I couldn't have snuck along in a suitcase (or I could have UPS'd myself lol).
