Can somebody tell me what I found? Standard Gage

So I found these at my local hobby shop that somebody brought in. I bought them for 100.00 each. I know they are Lionel standard gage but that's it. Does anyone know the matching locomotive to this set? What year was this made?

First of all, your back drop is stunning. The cars are from set # 403/403E Pulled by the aforementioned Mojave 402/402E. the 403 set was made from 1923-1927 or so, and 403E from 1926-1929.  I think your cars are from later in the run as they do not have slots in the couplers. This set was big and heavy plus you could add the 431 Diner to it for a 4 car set. the 402/402E was the most powerful loco of it day with 2 motor and a goodly amount of weight.... only thing better was the 408 which had more trimmings. You should be able to find a 402 pretty easily.

Thank you for the information. Is the 431 car hard to find? Was it an add on car available only in certain years?

Was the 408e offered on the 3 car set too?
